wana buy a turbo. but live in socal.
hey everyone. im looking to get a turbo for my bax and like what i hear of zpi from everyone on here but, i live in so cal. what am i to do, and who should i buy a kit from? ty to all who help with this, o ya its an 04 xb like when they first came out.
Well no turbo kits for the xB are CARB exempt yet... So you will either have to face the chance of getting busted and all that stuff, wait for a Greddy to maybe get there trubo kit CARBed or not get one at all... You could always move out of Cali and have no worries
... I say buy a ZPI and take your chances or move.. Sorry wish I had better news for you..but life is so and thank Cali for the strict laws..
lol, ah just buy a small peice of property in arizona get a mailbox register it their. and boom now cali laws hahaha. but owhell, guess ill just stick with n/a for now. dont have mony for turbo yet anywho. you know anyway for me to get more power past h/i/e? cuz i have those. just havent installed pulley yet lol

Well put the pulley on that will help with faster revs, I have read that there is a throttle body plate exstension that adds a few more hp... past that you would have to do internal work and spend thousands upon thousands of dollars... Best bet is to just save up for the property and a turbo..
ive been wanting to put on pulley just havent had resources to do so lol. o wel hopefully soon. ive seen a spacer on ebay but only a bid, no buy nows. owel guess ill start savin hahaha

however though, something is puzzling me about that greddy kit. Its not listed on the CARB website for exemt aftermarket turbos. Nothing for our car is listed there (in terms of forced induction) so its kinda worrying me. Could you expand on what they told you and so fourth? thanks!
Hmm along the same lines there...
I live in North Carolina for now because thats where "the man" has told me i will live.. If i get my car registered there then come back to California... i dont have to register in California right? Second question... does that mean i just have to go by North Carolina laws aka i can add whatever i want to my car so long as it follows NC rules?
:fingers crossed:

ya, my neighbor told me that cause he has his truck smogged in one of those places and he explained where it was once but i didnt write it down or anything. I should as him again and just buy a turbo and when its time to smog... ROAD TRIP lol.
the only problem with those smog places is you better make sure that they still do that, and how much u gotta slip em. becuase most all shops now days are wired directly to the dmv main computers and report the smog test your car gos through.

Im pretty sure if Greddy got the xB kit thru CARB exemption, you would have seen somthing on the forums.. Vendors would be coming out with some specials for all the Cali people who have been waiting on this to happen. But hey you never know.. check the CARB website and see.
The Greddy kit is NOT exempt yet. I check every so often. The Greddy website simply states that SOME of their kits have CARB exemption. You can see exactly which kits by going to the ARB website.
I have stated in these forums several times what I heard directly from Greddy at SEMA. At that time (November) they were "looking into" getting CARB exemption for the xB turbo. "Looking into." But he did say it as in if they were giving it very serious consideration. He also stated that they weren't even thinking about it for the supercharger.

5 years after its bought from the dealer 2 years if bought from a private person. secondly what i was saying about the smog exempt is there are places in california if you are a resident of that area you do not have to smog your car what so every. no test
