Hi !
I would appreciate any help/ideas/suggestions from all you Wonderful, Knowledgeable, Handsome & Talented Scion Studs--
Where to mount my Xm Roady2 reciever? I love my Xm radio-(and it plays thru my stock speakers (via it's FM modulator) I think it sounds great- AND it only cost $119.00,- NOT the $1200.00+ that my scion dealer quoted me to make my new car's stock stereo ACTUALLY "Xm Satellite Radio-Ready" just need to subscribe-!!)
I'm having difficulties deciding where to mount it- It's about 2.5"wide x 2" high and about 3/4" thick.... Has anyone put one of these in their Scions?? Where? Also- has anyone ever "hard wired" one of these? (straight to 12v power, so i don't have to use cigarette lighter plug?) My buddy says he can do it (cut lighter plug, attatch wires to ??-He's installed lots of regular car stereos, speakers, etc.. & accessories- but never a satellite radio...) but we're concerned about any possible noise interference / weird satellite specifics or any other potential problems i should know about?
THANKS !! Merjames

(2004 polar white xA 5 speed; bought 05-29-04-stock- except for: security system, floor mats & very noisy roof rack!!) :o

wait wait, back up a moment.

Do you mean to say that you only have to subscribe to XM, and that you can get an XM antenna that you mount on the car and plugs into the ciggarette lighter?

Well- Actually, you need a reciever, (like the Delphi Roady2), which comes with an antenna (a small(less than 2" X 2" & 3/4"thick)strong magnet w/ a very long cord), and cig lighter ... There is a FM modulator built in, (you pick from like 7 different FM frequencies) they also included an optional cassette adapter... The whole set up has been selling for $129.95 at fry's, bestbuy, & oline at xmradio.com
Once you plug it in to power, antennae, and tuned into the right fm station, you should hear & see the xm demo/start channel 1... THEN you just call 1-800-XMRADIO, OR go online to xmradio.com, to activate it ($14.95 one time fee) & start your $9.99 (or less!) per month subscription....
It plays thru your car speakers, but the major drawback is that you have another display screen & controller you need to use, instead of using the nice big one in the middle of your dash!! I think it's an absolute shame & almost false advertising / extremely misleading for Scion to say that the car comes standard with an "xm radio ready" stereo.... It was one of the selling points for me, and noone at my dealership knew anything about xm radio- Before buying my xA, I asked at my dealership several times if all i had to do was get a subscription to xm, and they said, Yes, as long as you have the special antenna...(which i already owned!!) Then- AFTER i signed the papers & came back in to have my security system installed, They tell me i'd need to buy the upgraded syereo($500+) PLUS have them install the antenna & reciver module (ANOTHER $600+ and 4+ hours in their service dept.!!)
Anyways- I hope i explained it clearly & correctly, and i'd love to read about anyone else's experiences and opinions with xm & scions....

I'd mount it below the head unit...or in front of the steering wheel. Use velcro...you can always take it off... I'd probably fabricate a mount for under the head unit, though... Or, if you can sacrifice a cup holder, make a mount that fits in there.

Also, can you take pics of your car with the roof rack? I have a Polar White xA as well and I was thinking of getting a yakima q tower system...

Thanks
