tC trade in value?
Here's the story, me and my sister are sharing an auto tC, I really wanted a manual but she refused to even TRY to drive stick. So now a manual Indigo Ink is coming in and I really want it and I want to speak to my family about trading in the auto for the manual, knowing them they probably will say no so I don't want to get my hopes up, but how much would a silver auto tC with 1000 miles trade in for?
You would definetely get screwed more than likely. They says the most vehicles drop 20% of their value as soon as they leave the lot. (not sure if 20% is accurate....but it would be a waste of money)

Best luck.
Ok, you might not get screwed too bad if you do two things...
1. Don't trade it in, sell it to an individual.. it shouldn't take long, people who are on a long waiting list may not mind having 1000 miles on the car they wanted anyways and you could sell it for a bit less than what you got it for.
2. Did you roll your taxes into your payments? If so, that's going to mess you up some what because people aren't going to give you over the MSRP and likely will give u a bit less.. taxes could add a $1000 plus that you would be out... however, if you live in a state like Missouri where when you sell one car, you get a tax break on what ever you sold it for that you can use on the new car, you might be in alright shape..
i.e.. you sell the TC for $15,500 and you buy the new one for $16,500 you will only have to pay taxes on the $1,000 difference.
good luck, it really sucks when you get a car and wasn't exactly what you wanted, i hope u can make this work.

i've never sold a car before, so if we're financing a car, how would we go about selling it to an individual or back to a dealership?
also, I'm not sure about an asking price yet because I still have to talk it over with the family, but whatever is the difference between the car we have now and the manual I'll definitely have to make up the difference because it is what I want.
IMO, stop giving your family a headache
Just live with the auto. Save up enough money and something better will be available. Have you driven a manual before? Do you know how to properly drive an automatic :?: :D
BTW, you already but down a deposit on the manual tC? You can still get the deposit back if you do not take delivery of it. Also who is getting the credit rating on the tC you or your sister or your parents? The person on that financing records is the person that truly decides. If both you and your sister, she needs to agree as well or a Power of Attorney directly from her lawyer agreeing to your change.
Are you going to share the manual with the sister too? If so, well, there's goes your tranny...hahah, J/K.

Selling to an individual is easy.. you can either do the transaction at the dealership (so he or she feels more secure with the sale).. or do it privately, get his bank check or cash, pay off the car from the loan company (presumed to be toyota credit) and they will send u the title if you don't already have it... then you sign it over to him/her... the acura gsr i sold was a leased vehicle, actually so was the civic... anyways, that's more complicated but i got through it pretty easily.. if you need help email me or you can call toyota motor credit, tell them what u are wanting to do and they can walk u through it. Also.. you need to find out if you get a tax credit from the car your selling... if you do, you may get lucky and not have to pay any taxes on the 5 speed scion. As far as difference in price between the auto and stick.. it's about $860 (if i remember right)... you might actually be able to make this work pretty well with out losing any money... knock that much off of the car your selling.. i.e. sell the auto for $16,500 (approx) presuming that u don't have any other options installed and use that to buy the 5 speed.... nothing else really matters, the waranty will transfer to the new owner and as far as interest rates... some one could probably get the same interest rate through a credit union or online bank that u are paying for the new car.

i agree with the people saying not to sell it... i realize that you want stick that badly, but i'm am 1000% (that's a thousand) positive that your parents are going to flip. unfortunately, you're sharing the car. on top of that, you didn't buy it yourself as well. those two reasons alone will kill the logic of you selling a car that you JUST got for, not only yourself but for your sister as well, before the whole thing about losing money will come into the conversation.
it's hard, but you're going to have to just stick with it until you can buy a car yourself and make your own decisions about what you want. and even so... although if people REALLY want to get something then logic may fall out of the picture for them to do so, it's just hard to stomach how much you're gonna lose...
