View Full Version : 3rd brakelight decal install questions... stonecoldnimrod 11-26-2006, 08:32 PM so i bought a decal to put over my center brake light and i really don't want to break anything. anyone install steps on how to take off the cover and possibly the light where i can easily install this decal? jct 11-27-2006, 02:42 AM the cover just pops off and the brake light then unscrews... jason_r83 12-10-2006, 01:53 AM I got a overlay for my third brake light from randode.com.(awesom guy to buy from.-fast shipping and easy to contact) I recomend pulling the black outer cover from the side and not the top; I almost broke the light because I was pulling in the wrong spot. Once the cover is off there are two 10mm bolts that you take off. Disconnect the light harness/clip. The hardest part is getting the decal on straight! I just put mine on and I put it too low. You can see light from the top of the decal and the bottom part of the "scion" letters are kinda blacked out. I tried to remove it to reposition it but it tore:( I guess I'm going to have to order another one. stonecoldnimrod 12-10-2006, 11:10 PM yeah i took off the cover pretty easily... but in the end i somehow tore the decal so it was all pointless. i bought my decal from the same guy... guess i'll drop another 5 for a replacement. Gamecat 12-11-2006, 03:23 PM Is it legal to put these things on your car? gookgeek 12-11-2006, 04:39 PM ^^^ I couldn't say for laws everywhere else... but in Alabama, the only lights required on the back side of your car are the two taillights. A third taillight is NOT required... in Alabama. Even still, it's pretty lenient around here, even if I blacked out my taillights, I'll be okay if others can kinda see my taillights at night. Gamecat 12-11-2006, 04:44 PM I know in Jersey, it said you don't HAVE to have a third tail light, but if you do have one it has to work. gookgeek 12-11-2006, 04:47 PM I would just ask around, if you plan on doing it and are worried. But again, here in Alabama, even if you have a third taillight and it's broken, only the two main ones are required legally. (And I'm talking about smaller sized cars as well. SUV's, I believe, may or may not need to have a third taillight. I don't know, I don't own one.) bBlover 12-11-2006, 04:50 PM So I gotta remove some bolts? No screws?? stonecoldnimrod 12-11-2006, 09:43 PM like posted before... you have to carefully pull the cover off the light. then there's 3 visible screws. but the 2 parallel to each other are the only two you should remove. then unplug the wire that makes the light... light. and you're set. as far as texas io think the same rules apply. if you have a third brake light then it has to either completely work or not at all. strict on the foglights though. you don't need them... but i got pulled over once cause one of my fog lights were out. |
