Default Problems with aftermarket ECUs?

Anyone have an Emanage type deal, APEX AFC, or any other type Air flow control unit on their tC? What do you think about it and how many miles are on it.

i was just about to say there are no aftermarket ecus..

those things you mentioned are piggybacks...

most people end up getting the emanage ultimate from what i've seen. offers the best in features and has worked well in many applications.

my friends love them.

Dosent AEM offer a Standalone ECU for the tC now? You may never get it.. but I thought they had one for it..

Tranny 6SPD= in the range over $1700 and the Standalone will be maybe from $1300 all the way to maybe $2500.

Yeah I thought the standalone was pretty expensive. I know of a standalone called megasquirt I thought about trying but I wasnt sure. I know a few guys who use that to turbo thier rx-7s. Its around $400 bucks and they have downloadable programs or you can map it yourself.

It's a huge project to deal with a Megasquirt. It's do-able, but u have to do a lot of research and spend a lot of time learning about it and your car. If you are mechanicaly and thechnicaly inclined, then you could do this.

Thought it might be. Are there any major complaints with the piggy back system like emanage or putting on a apex afc?

Well, the only problem is Partial Throttle Tuning in the tC, which can be fixed by Dezod's PT Black Box. Look at my sig for more info.

So would it be a good idea to get something like emanage or camcon before or after most performance upgrades?

After, so you can dyno tune it once. More cost-effective. Otherwise, you'd have to change the fuel map after each mod to get the most out of it.

Most people will be happy with I/H/spipe/midpipe/E + a dyno tune with Camcon, S-AFC, eManage, whatever. With all that, you'd definitley be mid-high 14's @ 93's and ~ 170-180whp with a fat-___ midrange. This is more than enough speed for a daily driver and weekend track-er.

After that, you'll want suspension work. Power mods beyond those basics can be REALLY expensive both financially and time-wise.

----
You do NOT necessarily need the partial-throttle tuning for daily-driven, light-modded cars. The stock computer is fine for those days where you're just looking to get from A to B.... just turn the Camcon / etc. unit off.

Turn it on, and it'll only affect your WOT.

If you're in an FI car or a SERIOUSLY modded N/A (like, headwork, pistons, etc.), then you need to consider the partial maps for safety. This is when you'd look into Dezod's P/T unit.

Default For people who want go stand alone ECU

tC will have this problem if you want go for stand alone ECU.
First you will need to buy the CDI for the ignition
2nd, tC stock ECU control everything, which include: lighting, power, radio, AC bla bla bla....

If you go for stand alone ECU on tC you will have to decide that you will lost most of the fuctions on the tC.
