Default Gas mileage????

I just purchased my car and have been riding to work in the city. First tank i got to 260 miles and filled it up ten gallons. Second tank got to 270 and filled up ten gallons. Shouldnt i be getting at least 310 miles? I mean i barely even use the air and never go above 4000 rpm? Is this normal? I mean one of the main reasons for buying this car was for the MPG's. Whats the deal?

Is that your personal chart since the day you bought your xA? Wow, that's impressive how you've kept it up to date.

Yeah... that's not my most recent upload either.

I'm now at close to 12,000 miles.

Very interresting chart since I'm operating in the exact same weather conditions. My mileage is a VERY consistant 33mpg. My best was the first tank from the dealer when i got 34.9. My very worst was 32.1 which was all highway at 80mph going to Carlisle and back.

Chart has been updated to most recent fillup.

Well, depends on driving style, generally.

Also depends on whether you have an automatic or a manual tranny, and also the geography of where you live. The first tank in my manual xA netted me about 40mpg, the best I've ever gotten. That was back in the flatness of Milwaukee. Now in San Diego (more hills and the occasional mountain) I still average about 35-37mpg. It's mostly highway miles cruising around 75mph. Then again my Yaris (automatic) only gets about 31mpg....

This topic has been discussed A LOT. See this thread for quite a bit of information:

https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...775&highlight=

If you read through that, you'll see that I'm pretty unhappy with the mileage that I've been seeing in my xA. The best tank was under 31 and the worst 22. Since we are sharing spreadsheets:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?k...gfP4J5TP2yaCbQ

I've come to the conclusion that my commute is mostly at fault since it is a slow-crawl for 7 miles through city streets.

But I still think I should be seeing better than 22-24 on a 100% commute tank.

What is your average city speed? What is your average highway speed? Are there a lot of highway parking lot driving?

My worst tank has been 32mpg and that was mainly around town. I normally get about 37mpg with about 90-95% highway.

I sure would like to see something over 30mpg. My first 3 tanks were 27.0, 29.0 and 27.8. I was hoping that the less than 30 had something to do with break in.

I have been keeping a spreadsheet for over a year now. Istarted when the cara had 1221 miles on it. In the last 16761 miles I have averaged 34.53 mpg. The lowest tank was 28.51 and the highest was 40.38. I think both were flukes. More than likely due to the angle of the car at fillup. I always stop pumping when the pump cuts off automatically plus one more squeeze on the handle. I do not baby the car but full throttle happens very seldom. I run the a/c almost year round. On the highway on vacation I ran 20 hours, 1300 miles and averaged 36.5 at around 72 mph.

Default hello

I am averaging 43 mpg .I live in Mississippi where it is mostly flat.I do not drive past 61 mph.I also watch my driving habits alot .Thru my mods u wont see me on any Scion adds anytime soon I have a lot of fuel savers, nitrogen filled tires, and "saltflat racing disc"r the only outside appearance .I think if u r on here ur concerned about the lackluster fuel mileage of 29-35 mpg .There r ways u can improve ur gas mileage .

I only have 16" wheels that weigh in at 15 lbs each, so my wheels are fairly lightweight. I shift at 3500 or less for the most part, and shift quickly.

My mileage is mostly suburb driving, and when I'm on the highway, I'm usually doing 70-80, so I don't get anything spectacular as far as highway mileage goes.

I read this thread last night and decided to check my own mileage this morning. It's the first time I've ever done so. I got my Scion xA in September and figured I wouldn't even calculate the mileage until I hit maybe 5000 miles on the odometer. This morning was the first time I'd run the car down to where the gas warning thingie starts flashing. so I decided what the heck. Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised to find I got 37 MPG on this tank. I got 365 miles out of a full tank. I commute 60 miles each way to work, with mostly highway driving at 55-60 MPH. I drive an automatic.
