Default Best performance mod for least amount of $$

I am considering buying a 2007 tC but I was wondering what the best way to add 20+ hp for the least amount of money. Supercharger is out of my price range for now, and I don't want a loud exhaust (this car is for work). I was told there are ECU chips for certain cars that add 20+ hp. Is there a chip like this for tC's? If not what would be the best thing to add (please include price + hp/torque addition).

Thanks.

don't just buy any chip you see on ebay, they are garbage. just a resistor that makes your ecu add more gas to get 1 hp for fewer mpg.
www.forcefedracing.com they have a tuned unichip for stock tc's for $950.00 or just www.unichip.com and find a local dealer/installer/dynotuner, give them a call, see what they charge and estimate, but that should get you a nice boost of hp without making it louder.

The best power for the least money spent is the TRD Supercharger.

edit: whoops, it's out of your price range.

In which case, you won't be adding over 20hp with bolt-on modifications.

A Unichip only works when there are supporting mods that go beyond simple bolt-on applications, and even then, it's effects are limited due to the intelligence of the OEM computer. The OEM computer will re-learn and overwrite any changes made during non-WOT conditions.

Also, any product marketed as a "performance computer chip" is a scam.

you can get one from trdsparks for just under $3000, i think it is more for an auto because you have to buy a kit to fit it. it takes about 8 hours install. fitzgerald toyota in gaithersburg md says they would install it for $600.

You can order the Supercharger from TRDSparks.com for $2950. Shipping for me was $47 and I'm on the opposite coast line from them.

Installation depends on the dealership. At mine, I was quoted $445 before tax.

Call your local dealerships and ask for quotes on the install. If they try to charge you for the reflash tool, go to another dealership. Anything over $550, go to another dealership.

If you get a price you like, drive over and get it in writing.

Maybe it isn't out of my price range then. I was expecting to have to pay closer to $5,000 for the part + installation.

Agency Power or ZPI crank pulley (120)/Alphawerks header(300)/Injen CAI(220)/ZPI s-pipe(175)/ZPI midpipe(200)/HKS axle back(275).............go from 139 whp to 160-165

120
300
220
175
200
275
----

1290

Installation free since you could do it all in your driveway. TRD S/C is not rated at what they tell you at the dealership. 200 hp is at the crank so you're only looking at about 175-180 for the 5 speed and around 155-160 for the auto.

**Prices may be off a few, but this is the ballpark total.

If you would be willing to fork out 5000$, don't go S/C...............Turbo all the way and you'll get up to 240 whp with the ZPI Stage 1 and about 265 wtq. TRD S/C is a bad design and there have been many complaints. Just search this site about the S/C and see what other's say. Lots of "bearing" like noise, seals leaking, bracket mount breaking.............too much of a hassle. I honestly have heard nothing about the turbo systems going bad for the tC at all. Just search.

First and most important, decide what you really want to use the car for and what you are looking to get out of it, then go from there.

If I were you I would start with the following mods. These will all make your car faster, will make it handle better, and will also make you a better driver.

Sticky tires, lowering springs and shocks, NST pulley kit, short throw shifter. These are not necessarily all hp mods but they will make your car quicker and a lot more fun than stock, which is what you want anyway.

Those mods will also work with any form of forced induction in the future if you chose that route and will make your transition from n/a to forced induction easier.

Agreed............just decide what you want. If it's just the 20 whp, do the mods i listed above or some varient of them. If it's a tighter and more agressive stance and driving feel, do those listed in this quote above. Just depends on what you really want.

You can get 20whp n/a, as web stated. It'll be a fun daily driver car. Turbo and s/c will effect your gas mileage for the worse I'd guess
