Default Turbo n00b

I don't know if there's a thread about this.
All I know about the subject is that I want more hp.
That's it.

I have NO idea what makes up a turbo. What are the essential parts. What these parts function is. How it all comes together. What are the risks.

Is it possible for someone to explain this without fancy words. Explain TURBO to me.

(if there was such a topic already made please lock and sorry)

Garrett has some nice information on their site as well.

Read sections 101-103

The information is out there and not hard at all to find

the howstuffworks page actually has a pretty good video but the guy does a poor job of describing things. The text and pictures do a much better job

My advice? Start being a quiet mouse in the FI forum for a few months.
And get used to fancy schmancy words. No way around it. My other advice is to consider the TRD supercharger. It's going to be the safest way for a rookie to get more power.

My vocabulary of fancy schmanzy words is in the languages I speak not the turbo world
& I have friends with S/C that are anything but safe

Claudia, you should come out to P-Tuning on the 9th. They're hosting a get together for SE, but you're welcome to join us. They'll gladly answer any questions ya have. I unfortunately have to work that weekend.

Theres a great book someone had told me about awhile back, I went out and bought it, but i think the vocab is a bit too much for me and it sounds like i just a bit more atune to the turbo vocab that the average noob. No offense, i still dont know jack... lol...

The book is Maximum Boost by Corkey Bell. But Id stick to the howstuffworks site. Heres another site i found... check it out.
