What is the purpose, like what do GROUND WIRES do??
Hey everybody, well i was just going along and looking at some auctions and i came across "ground wires" what do these do? i like the way they look lol, like makes the engine look all "High tech, and big" haha because of these wires, i want to get some silver ones but really dont know the purpose hahah.. so if someone would be so kind and help me out on what they do, that'll be great.... thanks

I'm electronic lingo ignorant so if I'm using the wrong words sorry, but i have an idea of what I'm talking about.
Basically what they do is ground your car better so you'll get a better idle and helps the electricity current in your car. You won't have the dimming light effect anymore nor will you notice a rough idle. At least this is what I've heard. I know some people have issues with getting shocked a lot on their car, I know I did for a while. I heard those will get rid of the shocking as well.

they essentially try to minimize the voltage differentials across the body of the vehicle and engine. this is to try to make better grounding connections for battery so there is less "power" lost and a more secure circuit running across the vehicle.
check out mikochu's DIY tech on ground wires. he explains a little bit about this: https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29261

Yes, it's partially for looks but it also allows the electronic parts to work more efficiently and have a smoother idle and less fluctuation across the entire rpm range.
mikochu knows what he is doing, i tested his tutorial with my multi-meter and am now running his setup on the tutorial.
Most grounding kits you find are for "look". There is no benefit, and maybe even a worse benefit to those kits. Messing up the idle, CEL on sometimes.. etc..
mikochu's tutorial is good
I had a "TRD" (yeah right) grounding kit that I modified to fit his idea.
Much smoother idle, and shifts (manual), plus you get a little kick in high rpm's from less electrical noise.
dont exepct 20 hp, maybe 1-2
here is a link to his tut. https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=29261
i hope this helps ya

LOL this was the funniest thread ive ever seen on here. to even ask this question in the sense of wanting your engine to look "high tech & big" means you have zero knowledge of whats going on under your hood so leave it to the professionals. please
The ground wire kits you see are for giving electrical devices you have in your car a good solid ground straight off the negative battery terminal. they usually have multiple wires with terminal lugs ready to go. they will not give you any horsepower gain dont listen to the people who already got fooled into believing this.
i advise you to never even pop the hood on your box man. dont try to install anything electrical on your xb please im an aircraft electrician on boeings and you are going to hurt your car and/or yourself

Im a electrician/enviro tech on the F-15 Eagle in the USAF......^^^^^^^....anyways, if you feel good about doin work on your car, and find enough good things about the product you want to install on your car, go for it, thats how ive done the stuff on my xB, My components in my xB come off a power block from a 85 suburban!!! ive had 4 100W lights mounted to my car!!! id say go for it, from what i understand, a grounding kit will help in most cases, but like said about....dont expect a HUGE gain in h/p if any. dont let anyone tell you not to open your hood, just aint right, just make sure you know what your doing and possible getting in to, good luck!!

a fellow ELEN tech and you aint gonna back me up on this? this guy is talking about ground wire kits thinking they look "high tech" and make his engine look "big". That throws up immediate red flags to me. thats how someone ends up getting hurt or runing something in their car. "well i dont really know what this does but i wanna buy it" haha give me a break. Guess its just me that sees a possible BIG mistake for either this guy or his box coming. You need to have knowledge of the things you are doing especially when it has to do with something important like your vehicle.
How you like it up there rally driver? was there for a week last march and it was pretty darn cold :-)

The F-15 flies like crazy...it supposedly the top fighter under the F-22, but i guess thats cause i work on them , lol
LOL...well, the high tech part...eeehhhh, lol. but workin on his own car is a chance ...well anyone takes, i mounted my spoiler myself this past weekend, a big chance of screwing up, lol, but like i said, its all up to how much you read on what you want to do, and make sure you think you can, no, ill repeat, know you can, i studied on how to mount that spoiler here on SL.
i back you half and half, lol.
Its ok up here, the sno gets old, really old, lol. ive seen it to -30 up here, that was with 40 MPH winds, it was crazy!!! hard to work on the birds!!! Its supposedly got in the 40s today, very unusual. what squadron did you work with???
sorry bout the thread jack!!

ill take that half ;-) mr. new mexico dude go ahead and have at it with your box. i just want you to know though, before you post something like this you really should try and read about it online or ask someone that your friends with. im trying to spare you the thoughts from the people that are reading and laughing but are also kinda worried at the same time.
I guess i have a soft-spot when it comes to people kinda bein poserish and buying things for their vehicles they know nothing about. Like when you see a really nice car and you ask a guy about it and they just say "i dunno i had ________ motorsports do everything on my car". kinda takes the whole coolness of the car away knowing he doesnt know anything about it except the key turns it on.
rally... i cant even imagine trying to work on a jet in sub zero temperatures. i work c-17s at mcchord and what sucks here is it gets down in the 20s at night in the winter and somehow still rains and when your wet and your hands get wet you lose feeling in them like instantly. sucks when its windy and yur up on the pylon/wing with a speedhandle taking out 80 screws to get to a freakin differential pressure sensor that takes 2min to change out. i was there with a c-17 for a week so the army could practice cold weather jumps and whatnot. i think it was around 60* when i left and when we landed there like 2 hours later it was 6*. burrrrrr i wish we got cold weather gear but we only get gortex :-(
