I have an 07 but I installed 08 projectors at the same time so that may account for the brighter.

I didn't want to put HID's in my 07's cause I didn't want to blind the other drivers on the road. The projector focuses the light properly, thereby making it brights rather than scattering it in more directions with the reflective material for standard halogens.

The temp bulb I got was 6000k.

sorry i was talking about your headlights but you posted the answer before my page updated lol.

I got my headlights off of ebay for less money than getting them through TRDSparks.com. so just check around ebay or here to see if you can get a better deal cause 400 from TRDSparks.com is too much, in my mind, for two headlights.

Have you checked the relay harness? check the relay for rust or corrosion.

Also try move the bulbs to different ballasts to try to narrow down the issue, but first check the relay harness.

then its not the bulbs....its probably a bad ballast....i had the issue and thats what i did to find out what the problem was because one side kept flickering in and out and sometimes it wouldnt turn on....so yeah my issue was a bad ballast...im sure Cliff will take care of you...what i would do is pop in the stock one and reconnect the bulb to use your stock bulb and one side hid so you wont be like me that got pulled over and got a fix it ticket for having one burnt out headlight... hope that helps some...

I currently have a pair of luminics ultra violets (7050k) bulbs in the low beams that LOOK sweet, but it's kinda hard to read those road signs at night until up close! Does the HID kit basically do the same thing at the higher K rating?

a_german_named_hans
08-23-2008, 08:12 PM
first thing I noticed with my HIDs is how well reflective signs showed up at night. They work especially well for those cops that hide in the bushes at night, the reflective lettering they got on their cars makes them stick out like a soar thumb. I actually said "wow I can see that sign" when I first drove around the block haha

whartman77
08-23-2008, 09:05 PM
Are the HID kits fairly easy and non-intrusive (meaning not tearing into or breaking existing wiring or other parts?) to install?

a_german_named_hans
08-23-2008, 09:17 PM
Plug and play. you take the relay. Hook it up to the batter. Plug the OEM headlight socket into the relay. and plug the relay into both ballasts. and ballasts into the lights. 100% plug and play.

whartman77
08-24-2008, 12:46 AM
okay so I now remember why I went with regular bulbs instead of the HID; the last disclosure of their FAQ page specifically says these things are NOT legal for road use. Has anyone run into problems with these being installed as far as Johny Law goes?

As long as you get 4300 or 5000 they probably wont pay attention to you. I have had mine on for over a year and yes I have been pulled over once and they didn't even care about it!

If you get anything above 5000k, you are asking for trouble, but some people dont care and just like the way the 6000K+ look

If they are going to get you for HIDs, they are going to get you for something else too im sure.

a_german_named_hans
08-24-2008, 02:15 AM
I've had 6k for pretty close to a year, I've driven behind cops and everything. I've even had a cop check out my lights and compliment me on them. As long as you don't go crazy blue, you should be fine.

mdMiketC
08-24-2008, 07:28 AM
^yeah thats the main thing. the bluer they are, the more like you are to get pulled over. Typically 6000k is a normal/safe temp to get cause yeah, they are leaving the pure white of the 4300-5000k range, but not enough to really be considered blue.

is re-aiming the headlights after an HID install needed, and is that a PITA?

equinox2355
08-24-2008, 02:01 PM
is re-aiming the headlights after an HID install needed, and is that a PITA?

Its only needed if the headlights aren't level. I was lucky enough that when I did my swap, that it was still level.

Oh and its not that difficult, there are aiming adjustments that are easy to get to, you just need to have a perfectly flat surface that you can be like 70-100 ft away from a nice flat wall.

whartman77
08-24-2008, 05:16 PM
ill have to at least get a few months out of the luminics bulbs; good thing they were only 20 bucks! And even better that I really don't do that much night driving. But I probably will go with the HID before I take my next trip to NY (spring to summer next year)

Hey cliff, installed the kit today and have an issue...

The lights are 1/2 if not 1/3 the intensity of the exact same kit I installed in my xB. Kinda disappointing... Is it possible the ballasts/relay are bad? I mean, the halogens prob had more out light put then these :( Something must be wrong. I double checked the connections and everything but no improvement. One of the bulbs also has a slight red tint to it, it appears.

Please let me know what we can do, thanks.

The economy is pretty lol.....in NY at least, i don't know how it's in IL lol...

cliffud
09-16-2008, 03:54 AM
yeah, economy is rough and everyone likes to buy products that are promised to perform but at a ridiculously lower price.

For example - I had some guy e-mail in the other day...

"can i return my kit, it didn't work after like 3 weeks".

I couldn't find his proof of purchase but figured he had it so i told him to go ahead and send it in with his proof of purchase.

THE GUY SENT ME A KIT FROM SOME MICKEY MOUSE SHOP CALLED GOTHIDKIT.COM!!

hahaha! he paid $110 for a piece of garbage that ended up not working 3 weeks later and then wanted the MobileHID.com warranty!

*sigh*

Don't buy garbage guys... there's a reason why I've done a ton of testing on diff kits out on the market. It's so you DON'T HAVE TO WASTE YOUR MONEY...

http://www.mobilehid.com/ballasts.jpg

Some of the crap is even sold on here!! :(

Xentec kits are crappy ebay kits that can be had for 80 bucks but have a high failure rate. I mean seriously... we're talking about electronics for your car and safety at night, do you think they can really crank out something reliable over time for that cheap?

Mod-Express kits with ballasts that had flimsy almost paper thin covers on the backs as seen below:

http://www.mobilehid.com/modexpress/me6.jpg
http://www.mobilehid.com/modexpress/me7.jpg

But then now they claim they are selling "Philips" kits... here's a heads up guys, as far as I know - Philips doesn't produce ballasts anymore and it most likely is a kit just labeled "Philips" because the ballast used in their "Philips" kit looks VERY VERY VERY much like ballast number 2 in the review picture up above... yeah- the "BOSCH" kit which is totally bull____ and not really "BOSCH".

Tell you what guys, if you like people lying to you, I can start slapping labels on the boxes claiming the kits will enable time travel on your car and 500 extra HP but my integrity and respect for you guys gets in the way.

cliffud
09-16-2008, 03:57 AM
as a reference...

If you swapped the stickers between the Bosch ballast above (number 2) and this on in their pic... would you really notice a difference?

maximthegreat

cliffud
09-16-2008, 04:21 AM
ragingbull - let's check 2 things.

1) Please make sure the relay that is on your wire harness doesn't have any corrosion. To check - just pull it off and look at the prongs, if you see anything other than nice clean metal, you might just need a new relay.

2) Please swap the bulbs from side to side and see if the problem follows the bulb. if it does, then most likely it's a bulb. if not, then it could be a ballast issue. Either way though, you're covered under warranty so no biggie man.

Please keep me posted on what happens.

alright.. this is what i found.. first i checked the relay.. yes it was corroded.. i replaced with a new one and cleaned the contacts on the connector.. the passenger bulb still flickered.. swapped the bulb with a 9006 HID i had from my old set of headlamps.. left it on for 10 minutes.. bulb didnt' flicker.. connected the H1 bulb back in (the one in question) and it took forever to light up, and it flickered constantly..

so i think i just need a new bulb, ballast is fine... the H1 bulbs that i had in were purchased back in april/ may i think...

So, here we go. I'm finally pulling the trigger on a HID kit for my month old 09 tc. Everybody says you are the go-to guy for some high quality HIDS.

10-02-2008, 02:14 PM
hey agent 99,

just order from here whenever you're ready: http://www.mobilehid.com/scionlife.htm

it will come with a harness AND some direct connection wires if you'd rather connect the ballast directly to the plugs. it's safe now because mobilehid kits now use the digital ballasts that only pull 5.5amps upon startup.

I am looking into purchasing a 6000k kit, but for a possible future run if I decided to switch to 4300k...is it as simple as just switching the bulb to get your color preference?

Wow, i must say that these digital ballasts make installation a snap (literally). All i did was insert the HID bulb into the lamp socket, connect the two plugs from the bulb to the ballast, plug the ballast into the OEM headlight power plug, and then find a nice home to mount the ballast. I felt a lil uneasy about how lil time it took (15 mins or so). It took me a long time to decide where to mount the ballasts though.

I used Scotch indoor/outdoor double-sided mounting tape and they seemed to be holding up like a champ. (i'll post pics later i suppose...) I still feel funny not using the relay harness that was provided. Cliff, are you sure we don't need to use it with the digital ballasts?? I thought your biggest sales pitch was including that relay harness with your kit.

Where the ballast connects to the factory light power plug, i needed to switch the polarity for it to work. So it no longer locks securely into the factory plug. Is it normal for me to have to switch the polarity of the plug? Won't the power plug connection become loose after a while since it's not locked together? What can i do to make sure the ballast power plug doesn't become loose from the factory plug??

Thanks guys! :P

AZPtC

AZPtC
10-10-2008, 06:51 PM
My 6K HIDs have been running great since i installed them on Monday! No flickering or any problems so far. I've been driving at night with these babies in and have not gotten flashed yet.

So the stock 2005 tC lamp housings do pretty well for HID in terms of limiting the glare. I even (nervously) drove behind an Edison cop and was driving opposite an NYC cop with them on at night...lol! :lalala:

cliffud
10-10-2008, 07:18 PM
the 9006 kits don't need prongs, they can direct connect to the factory plug.

the h11 kits on the other hand have spade connectors but that'll change since new plugs were created for the purpose of getting them to fit better.

azptc - i had to swtich the polarity on my fogs and high beams too. worked fine for the low beams. dunno why but it works fine with the plug turned around, no biggie.

agent99 - looks good man! :)

pm'd the rest of you guys. :)

Hey Cliff, I'm interested in getting the H11 6000k HIDs. I was wondering is it still $170 shipped? I live in Hawaii. Approximately how long would it take to ship? LMK as I would like to put my order in today. Thanks.

Hey Cliff, just out of curiosity, are all the ballasts going out right now the digital ones? Do they come with the relay harness just in case? Oh and do you still sell the analog ones or are those old news now? :P

cliffud
10-21-2008, 09:45 PM
msg_tc - yes, they are all digital. no harness is included because they are no longer necessary with the digital ones.

stay tuned regarding the older style ballasts - they'll be offered for an even BETTER price. ;)

Scionated - yep, you'd have it in 2-3 business days. order away. :)

ragingbull - you'll have it in the next 48 hours. it already shipped out sorry for the delay buddy.

I'm assuming that they would still come with the relay harness right? Would they still come with the warranty? And say if one of the ballasts goes bad in the future, would they be replaced with the analog ones or would it be replaced with the digital ones? Any heads up on when they will be offered at the new price?
Sorry for all the questions, just been interested in getting an H.I.D. kit and haven't bothered looking into any other brands since I read great reviews on your products and customer service.

cliffud
10-22-2008, 06:00 AM
msg- older kits will have a diff warranty or sold so cheaply there won't be a warranty just guaranteed not to be DOA. for the most part, if it works when you fire them up the first time, they'll work for a long time. but yeah. we'll see... :)

hey cliff! thanks for the help about switchin the polarity. got it workin! awesome shippin' btw! ordered them monday night & got them wed afternoon =]

oh yeah...any ideas on how to secure the fitting between the power & ballast cables? this is the philly area & there's always bumpy roads/potholes and this was the 9006 kit, so it didn't come with any kind of prongs as mentioned a couple pages back in the thread. maybe just electrical tape all around? =D

Just an update, I have had my HIDs in for about a year now, and they are still shining bright as they did when I first pulled them out of the box.

If anyone is hesitant to get these, don't be, if there are issues, cliff will be there to help you!

that's the exact same issue!!....it does get annoying while driving....i think that if the bulb flickers it means that the bulb has the issue, not the ballast....anyway im waiting on cliff to update me on my bulb :P :P

Hmm - does the bulb look burnt at all? Can you swap the bulbs from side to side to see if the problem follows?

Ragingbull78

how can i tell if it is burnt.... it still appears clear though.. the ballast that you sent me worked then within minutes, it started flickering.... are there regular issues with H1 bulbs
