hey now- has anyone tried to flush mount a set of tweets in the xb a pillar? How deep can they go? I have the CDT frontstage kit and the flush mount would look a lot cleaner than surface mount. I know someone was working on it but haven't seen any update.

looks good! So, if I may ask- what brand tweet is that/mounting depth. Did you have any trouble taking the "a" pillar off? I noticed that the rubber strip is pretty snug along the door side of it, any trouble putting it back into place?

Its a diamond hex tweeter...A friend of mine installed everything but from what he said it was easy to do. You could look on diamonds website for the depth but it cant be that big!!!!

I put the CDT tweets up high in the A-pillar. Just pull it off and look at the back of it, it's real east to reinstall.~~~~~~~~~~~~scott

I am going to be flush mounting some 1" cdt's on the a-pallars. There is allot os space behind that plastic for mounting depth. And you don't have to pull the rubber strip off, the apillar just pops right off if you tug on it. It hard to put back in than take off.

Considering how directional tweets are, it would be great if they could face more forward. That's why I've been wondering about something like a gauge pod. Or how about the vertical strip along the top of the dash where gauges would normally be?

Exactly! You would need to put your chin on the speedo pod to fully appreciate the soundstage. A better install from a fidelity standpoint would be to mount it into the grill in the dash so the sound reflects off the windshield right into your ears. Still, it LOOKS cool in the pillar.

i romoved my dash, and installed a set of 6 1/2 boton pro components where the factory tweeters were located. theres tons of room under the dash. took me most of the day, but i got them in there. i'm not sure how they sound yet...i'm still in the process of buiding my amp rack!

Why are they mounted so low? I mounted mine the same way, just at the top.

i could probably come up with a made up answer, but i don't know. maybe some audio guy can let us know which is better.

they say it's best to keep the tweeter within 3" of the woofer. I believe it's for level balance issues. but if you are running a electronic crossover or you x-over has attenuation jumpers you can what ever you like that sounds good.

my components came with a crossover.

by placing the tweeter in front of you is designed to bring your sound stage up. Yes it is best to be close to the mid to have less separation, but sometime you have to do what you have to do... Any higher then what Sam has is too high unless you have a mid with a very good off axis response (mounted in factory location). The best way to determine how high your tweeters should be would be to have the mid in place then play a good digital recorded CD and move your tweeters up and down the pillar until you find the staging to be in front of u, not below you or above u.
