Default 07 Scion tC, break is WEAK ?

Why does our break require us to step on the break 80% down for the car to actually start breaking? Is there a way, I can change the break where I can light step my foot on it and it begins to slow down?

you have a major problem... take it in for service if you truely have to go 80% on the brakes to start slowing down

Our brakes are fine once you get used to them. Have you felt what Toyota could've done with our brakes?

Drive a Camry and/or Sienna and you will know fear.

However, with that said, I remember an auto tC I test drove had the worst brakes ever. It wouldn't STOP until it was nearly floored. I think there was something seriously wrong with that tC...

brake, yes sorry typo. And yeah guys, I was on the freeway one day and then I lightly tap on the breaks it even began to slow down at all, which was really weird. When I got home, I parked my car in the garage and I lightly tapped on the brakes, and the brake light didn't even come on until I step on it atleast a inch down.

YOURS.... :D

My brake feel is pathetic compared to my family's Hondas (Pilot, Acura RSX and CL 3.0). When I learn to bleed brakes and my pads wear out I'll be changing them for something a little more powerful, as well as new lines.

dang that sucks. My family has owned 10 Toyota products over the past 3 decades (currently a IS300 , Land Cruiser, and Rav4). All of them have nice firm brakes that require very little touch at all, especially the IS and Land Cruiser! I always thought my tC's brakes felt a little weak compared to my parents cars, but that's the different in 20-40 grand. Plus the fact that the IS and TLC have 4 piston calipers where the tC's are just two. That makes a huge difference. They work just fine most likely, if you don't like the pedal feel, upgrade your brakes, or atleast get steel braded brake lines and high temp fluid, and maybe even some better pads, or just buy the whole kit, it's only like 2 grand...lol.

I use to drive a Chevy Suburban around and wow...
After driving my m/t tc for a while once I got back in that thing
I nearly catapulted myself through the window just stopping at a stop sign going about 15
Breaks are strong on that thing
or just weak on tc's

Something must be wrong with yours. The brakes are no weaker in relation to the Suburban (considering weight), they just engaged sooner in the pedal travel. Has zero to do with them being weaker.

The tC has excellent brakes. If yours are not stopping like they should, definitely have it checked out. If it is simply a matter of pedal travel (unless it is excessive) in relation to other cars, that is just something you have to get used to from car to car. But mine do just as well as my 4Runner or any other car I have owned.

i test drove a civic before i brought the tC and i gotta admit, the brakes are lousy compared to a civic. My mom also drives a camery 99, and MY GOD... enough said..
but yeah the tC is fine, has enough presssure so u have a nice clean stop and u won't ever have to floor it like a camery.
braking also depends on how heavy your car load is..

Wow, I cant believe people are saying they are lousy, unless you havent driven many cars before or you have a brake issue.

I tested them out pretty well last year to see how well they worked. On snow, I cold stand on them at 40mph and stop as quick as the tires would allow and never even begin to slide (I dont recommend this to less experience drivers ). On dry pavement they will stop on a dime.

On curvy roads, they do excellent in staying balanced and not fading any more than is reasonable to expect.

Actually, out of the people I have conversed with about auto-xing in the tC, the brakes were the last thing they wanted to change. The only complaints I have heard yet were complaints that didnt hold much weight in the braking area or were from young drivers with little to compare to. I can tell you from years of driving that the stock setup is pretty decent on this car. If you want more feel, you can slap on some stainless lines. But other than that I cant find any reason to touch them unless you are doing some serious road racing.

Again, pedal travel changes from car to car, that cannot be used to determine how good the brakes are.

i had my dad pull my car out of the garage to wash it. He gets out and says your brake pedal feels like it has alot of play in it. I look behind me and say you drive a bmw theres a $40,000 difference thats probably what your feeling. The first time i drove his car i just about went out the windshield lol. the thing with the surburban is probably because it has bigger discs and calipers better stoping power even with all that weight. I think the brakes are fine on our car. You probably just have air in your brake lines. get them bled see what happends.

The brake feel is kinda bad but i dont see it as a problem. If you ever drive a prius you will see what it feels like to have very sensitive brakes. You barely have to touch them and your joulting forward

I agree. The pedal travel prevents you from upsetting the balance of the car when you need to slow down as opposed to stopping in a hurry. They are trying to prevent you from "flying out the windshield". This allows for smoother braking for those without a highly trained foot. The brakes give a deceptive feel because they actually stop the car quite well.

huh, never noticed that... but then this is my 4th Toyota so maybe I'm used to it. but I don't have any problem stoping. And getting off the 110 you have to go from 70 to 5 mph on a dime because there aren't any off ramps just right hand turns to exit!

I think the brakes are just fine. I've used them very effectively in normal stops and panic stops. They are indeed designed to be comfortable unless you're in a panic, as someone stated. They work fine in autox. My previous tc, I installed SS lines but saw no difference in pressure. That's more for longevity, though.

Yes, some sportier cars have more aggressive brakes, but doesn't mean ours are bad. Just means the pedal has a different feel.

Also, a civic is quite lighter than our cars. Keep that in mind.

But as it was already mentioned, if you feel you have to hit it a lot to stop the car, take the car in immediately. Seriously.
