These are facts from what I just saw of the xD.

I just returned from the big deal down here in Miami.

No cameras were allowed. They were serious with the searches.

The xD is a 4 door.
The xD is not an Auris copy, at least not sheetmetal-wise.
EDIT - The engine is not certain, see the first post on page 2 for more details.
The xD has rear door speakers and cupholders.
It looks like a Matrix, but smaller, and with with the C and D pillars welded together.
The gauges are in front of the driver.
The gauges are backlit WHITE.

Yep, the xD engine bay seems to be a lot smaller than the 08 xB, but they were both sporting the 2.4L at the show.

There seems to be more cargo room behind the rear seats.

The center belt is really odd. It reaches from the side, across the headliner, and drops down. It's ugly.

5 lug. The displayed car was wearing Volks. They were hot.

yea, i heard from a friend that went to to event that this was true...they showed the new xd and the new xb..which is suppose to be longer than the current one,....and i believe that they both have the 2.4 in it. but they were pretty modded out. i know that the xb had projectors...but they took everyone's cameras and cellphones,etc.

I don't think your correct in the statement that the engine is going to be a 2.4L what I've been told so far is that it will be a 1.8L, but not the current 1.8L we known, as they are in the process of creating a new one for the 08 Corolla coming soon, likely it was hidden for that reason,

yea i saw them both and they were ver outstanding yes i remeber asking her to open the hood woops hahaha hope it stays thay way with exception of the lip kit the gold xolored matched the volks nicely on the new box. Loved the center staged shifter like a caliber very unique.................

I am hearing conflicting engine specs. It looked a lot like the 2.4 from the tC, but someone else said he saw the sticker under the hood and it identified the engines of both vehicles to be the 2ZR-FE...1.8.

When questioned directly, Mark Templin did not confirm the engine size.

well while looking at the xB i asked soemone - "hey it looks like the 2A"... all he told me was "thats a VERY good guess" and winked. it looked like the headers of the 2A - same set up as the RAV4/Camry/tC we shall seeeeeeeeee - either way - its a nicer lookin car!!! altho it not as boxy, so our box images will hafta change! ^__^

but as far as the xD - i heard it woudl be a smaller engine than the xB, and the set up of the xD looked diff than the xB - odd, since they are currently twins. so your speculations of it being a 1.8 might be true. only time will tell - gotta wait till the official release info in chicago.... man dont we all feel lucky!!!

The xD IS the 2ZR-FE and NOT the 2AZ-FE... that would make it a 1.8 not a 2.4.... I didn't get a good look at the engine code of the xB... it was very crowded there when they unveiled it, not to mention dude from 5Axis shut the hood really fast!!
Both cars are awesome!

From what I was told both engines where covered, so yes someone may have seen the stickers, but you have to remember those are 400K proto-types, There will not be a factory production vehicle for months to come, and in those months, many things could change. I would put a $100.00 on a 2.4 tC/Camry engine in the xB and the new 1.8L dual vvti engine in final production for the new corolla on the xD, you have to remember expense, keep the cost down. The xD wil have to keep a competive edge on the Honda, Nissan, and Chevy like models, along with gas millage. I bet with the new motor you see figures in the low 40's on xD with better HP ratings then the current model Corolla

my take....

the xD ... the color was hot and it was shown with a lip kit on it. from the scion actual corp guys they said “you will be able to purchase the cars with the kit already put on it at the factory" so that’s a good thing... especially since it was made for a dual exhaust too.... very interesting.... The styling was much like an xa cross between the doge caliber a little were it already has lines if you wanted to two tone your car... basically it was made for two toneing although its getting over played...

So starting with the front... has a nice aggressive look were the hood actually curls down more in the front and has the scion logo on the hood instead of the grill. The head lights were okay looking... kind of a sleeker xA light hopefully someone will make projectors for it... the mirrors had the turn single lights on it... 18s were on this bad boy... the back hatch looked just like the xA pretty much although the taillights were skinny and looked great... When the hatch was opened... had probably about another 6in deep to work with over the xA...good sign for the ones who love the bumping in the trunk... the rear seats had 2 buttons on each side of the 40/60 design... not totally sure what both due... we will find out.. when the rear doors were opened... they had cup holders built into the doors... more leg room over the xA... When the front doors were opened by the lovely model, everything caught your eyes... the speedometer tach and everything were set up in front of the wheel this time...too bad i just got used to looking in the middle of my dash now... lol... the stereo was a new scion built head unit. 2din with a lcd screen like that on a pioneer premier head unit... as you went down the center consol the a/c and heating controls looked more like they were fiber glassed in like on some show cars were they looked like pods for the controls rather than it being flat... Also the center console ended there and cut back in towards the engine give a lot of room on the bottom between the dash and the shifter to play around with..."my personal favorite part on the car next to the color!!" The shifter was set up the same way as the xA and current xB... When the hood was opened up there was the assuming of god... there’s not going to be any room to work on within the car.... as you have heard it was close to a 2.4L in there taking up most of the engine compartment.... The reason the SCION engineer came in to shut the hood was because... it was a dumby engine.... Scion corp guys said they are still finishing up the design of the engine and instead will be the 1.8L and be able to fit a turbo in the compartment as well..."the turbo is going to be able to fit on the final product" All in all this was a great machine... still on the toss up on wither I want to start parting out my car for the August arrival or not ... But I will wait to hear what the price tag actually came too...

hopefully this gave some more insight to the new model and not just :blah: to your ears... all in all it was a great car...

I agree that it was kinda a meld between the xA and a Matrix... kinda in the middle of both lengthwise...

BUT!!! It was HAWT!!! Definitely NOT lame at all. You just have to see it...

No. the xB at the show had projectors though.

I looked at the tag on the inside of the hood on the XD. It said 1.8L but they shut it before I could see the engine code. :tap:

yes i was staring at the motor over 5 minutes on the xd since i was like right in front i didnt get to see the xb motor. However it was sportn a 1.8 dual vvti motor which is nice the xd kinda resembles the european rally corolla i have seen in models from thamiya like a hatchback style or like a mazda 3 wagon with the width of a golf really beefy lookn yat sportier than the xa . on 20;s with bags will be a killer. I m on da list for an xb though and if u were there the xb with the red from the xd would be slammn

I was told that the NEW xB will get the 2.4, while the xD will more than likely be getting the new 1.8 from the new Corolla.

The Camry gets 23/34 with the 2.4, but the key is gearing. I have been saying from day one that the one thing that the tC REALLY needs is a 6 speed manual and a 5 speed auto box. That will give the needed performance AND fuel economy.

It makes me wonder is the new xD derived from the same Corolla-based platform used on the Auris, hence the reason why it uses the new 1.8-liter I-4 engine found on the new Corolla models now rolling out in Japan and Europe.

No, based on my sources, RS3 xA was supposed to come out in early November and new Scions were to be shown in Miami on the 16th. Besides being 1 day off on the show date, seems like my info has been correct so far. I think the xB will be available March 07 and xD July 07. Let's hope I'm right and it won't be later than that.

You are correct, at the dealer level we are being told April/May, March is not going to happen, so don't get your hopes or dreams up, because they will be broken for sure. June/July of the xD will be correct though, as long as everything continues to plan.

We were told May/June for xB and July/August for xD. But I really hope that that report is wrong!

I hate to be a bugaboo, but there was a fax apparently sent to the dealers that someone scanned and posted a while back that had photos of both vehicles. At the time people poo-pooed the depictions on it, but on hindsight it sounds like the pics were dead-on. Does any1 have this document? I think the thread got deleted...

I felt the xd was... blah... the new xb however was a HUGE step in the right direction!

I was up close and right in front of the xb when she opened the hood, and being one of the people that have worked on the 2az from top to bottom, there was NO mistake, it was the 2az in the new xb.

As for the xd, it looked like the pics of the dual vvti 1.8L engine. Cover was funky looking... so I am still not 100% sure on it. Major dissapointments in the xd were rear drum brakes and still a 4 lug bolt pattern...

The xb got 4 wheel disk, 5 lug bolt pattern which was pretty cool. Also from the look, an this is definitly not a 100%, it also looked that the xb had the same suspension as the tc... the top mounts looked the same but lets hope that crosses as well. Could have also been the 3 glasses of jack in me at the time haha.

Last, the raw cars were not prototypes. They were production units with body kits. Confirmed that with the wigs at the show.



Also to note, I got up close and personal with the FUSE! I was able to look under it, in the wheel wells, in the front red glowing vent and basically all over. It for 100% sure is a prototype and was created from a tC. The FUSE had the 2az engine inside, tc brakes and suspension for sure. Had tein coilovers in the rear it looked like *LOL*.. Also fitment was tight under the hood and it looked like they took fuse cover lids off and that some were not bolted into place to crap it all in there...

Well..... The SCION WV Open ended today & during the roundtable meeting many things were discussed and one of them being release dates... the xD will be released in August... no exact date was given.
