Default Gas light came on. How many more miles can I go.

The just came on. I was wondering what the title says. And which is the last bar for the car for it to be fully empty. The last line, or the circle dot where the orange dot comes on? Thanks!

well.. how about you drive it and find out?

honestly... running with that low of a fuel tank... miles past the light coming on is not good for the car.

but maybe 40-50 miles?

light comes on. you have 2.5 gallons of gas left.

So how ever long 2.5 gallons of gas last you.

2.5 gallons of gas will get my tC a good 60 miles

That one is dependant on the car. The gas gauge on most cars isn't exactly acurate.

When that lights up, that means find the nearest gas station and fill up. You don't wanna risk yourself being in the middle of nowhere without gas. And gas running really low is bad for the fuel pump.. I think.

yes running low on gas would starve the fuel pump of gas.. and that makes the pump run dry = bad.. don't want that.

I've gotten an additional 70~ miles after the light came on.. And I still had about 2 gallons in the car when I filled up. So yeah it comes on early.. by law most cars are supposed to run a minimum of 60 miles after the light comes on though.

I'm honestly a bit sick of these mileage threads.. Buy a Civic if you need close to 40mpg.

yeah, you definitely don't want it getting too low because it doesn't only run the pump dry but also you are soaking up all the sediments that settled in the bottom of the tank. this is bad cuz all that crap sometimes winds up in the engine or eventually build up around the pump/filter. you may also want to consider not filling up if a tanker just delivered gas at the pumps cuz it stirs up sediments in that huge tank at the gas station and gives a higher chance of it being in YOUR tank.

when the gas price was $4/gallon, people drive to the last drop. Trying to wait for the price to come down. Car shops report fuel pump problems doubled.

One VERY important thing to consider. Fuel pumps rely on the surrounding gas to stay cool. By running low you take away its coolant. Much like overheating your engine.
