View Full Version : What happened to the left side storage bins?
2002cbr600f4i 12-05-2003, 07:11 PM HEy gang,
Got my new xA this past Sunday. I'm loving it, but one thing I'm wondering about. In the brochure material, they indicate that there are 2 little storage bins to the left of the steering wheel. Mine doesn't have those, just blank plastic panels. They look like they're something that could be removed/replaced with bins though.
Are these some sort of option that I didn't see or something???

squirrel 12-05-2003, 08:57 PM yeah, just like the xBs were supposed to have removable rear seats.

2002cbr600f4i 12-06-2003, 01:25 AM Ok, this is the picture I saw in the sales brochure:
http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/92444769/bc/The+new+Scion!/__sr_/DSC01193.jpg?ph3GU0_Ak7ay__1E
And then, this is what I have in the actual car:

It looks to me like the top one is where they decided to put the dimmer switch, security sensor and mirror controls, but why not put the bottom one in? I can stick my fingers in the little cutout tab, and there feels like there's empty space back there, but I have the feeling that's where the fusebox is..
I guess this is another of those items that fall under the "Standard equipment, options, accessories, and other information is pre-production tentative and is subject to change before Scion launch." clause in the brochure... :(

tbblizzard 12-07-2003, 08:39 PM i know what you're talking about. just under the dimmer and mirror controls right? it would've been nice to have a bin there, be my change bin.

showpaojoe 12-07-2003, 10:11 PM I don't know if that is the fuse box but I have seen switches put there before for neon and strobes but they left the cover on.
DibujoB 12-07-2003, 10:22 PM I was out on a test drive this morning with a dude in a camry, and he pulled out the little change drawer and was like "You can put your weeeeeeeed in here!"
I was like "yeah, that's what the brochure says."
tbblizzard 12-08-2003, 12:50 AM LMAO. haha. check out the suzuki aerio sx... dealership salesman was showing me all the stash spots in case i ever got pulled over. lol. i was like, wtf are you telling me to do? hide my drugs?
Vegasscion 12-08-2003, 01:42 AM Where would be the best place to hide somthing in our cars?
Mark

arinvolvo 12-08-2003, 05:11 AM Mark...I have been talking to people from TSW about getting together a vegas chapter....
either that or starting my own club....and of course you will be invited...we just dont need contraband at the meets.
Docofmind 12-08-2003, 05:18 AM You guys are hillarious.
I was actually with a bunch of my friends at an S2000 meet today and of course i brought my Scion instead of the S, it was raining :)
So bring the BBQ of course since it wouldnt fit in anyone else s car and hand my buddy the keys to get everything out the car while i went and helped set up the table. When i got back my xB was full of people and full of smoke. True def of hotbox.
On a serious note. I think teh two storage bins they are talking about are both in the door. One on the bottom and one on the top. The top one is more of a door handle than anything.
2fixA 12-08-2003, 03:28 PM I don't see the pictures either... but yeah, I believe DocOfMind has it right, in the door there are "2" bins, the one I drop my maps in on the bottom and then in the door handle itself? But I've noticed all sorts of places to put stuff in the xA, below the stereo we have 2 spots to hold stuff, the garage door opening one and then below that a little cave, similar to in front of the passengers under the glove compartment (am I mixing up cars again?)
2002cbr600f4i 12-08-2003, 09:13 PM Nope, not talking about the door. I'm talking about on the dash, just to the left of the steering wheel..
And sorry about the pictures. Let me try again...
This is what the brochure shows...:

And this is what my car has:
http://www.isx.com/~mkopack/DSC01195.jpg
And BTW, those little "bins" on the passenger side below the glovebox are so small they're basically useless...

tbblizzard 12-08-2003, 09:18 PM yea, i don't see what you'd put in those little slots under the glove box. it could hold maybe a pack of gum or some keys or something. maybe they'll have a bin you can buy to put in that spot. it looks like it was supposed to come out. its got a slot for your fingers...? i think. either that or it's just a hole.
LinexA 12-09-2003, 03:25 PM That long narrow space under the glove box is great for garage opener, cell phone, glasses and/or keys. Great because it's narrow enough so they don't slosh around as you drive. I hate when my stuff flies around. That's just what I do.
I also noticed those storage spots in the aX brochure and wondered where the extra storage went. BTW, same thing happaned with my '96 330ti, the Euro brochure showed a big bin under the steering wheel, but the US cars didn't have it. Maybe something to do with our safety laws. Oh well.
