Pushing My TC Last Night!
OK, I know this was not smart and I've been kicking myself in the butt for it ever since. But I figured I'd get some opinions for the heck of it. Last night I was on my way home from the mall xmas shopping driving down rt. 30 in my stock tc, when a Prelude and a Integra come climbing up my butt. I move over to right lane let them pass, they go past then slow down,I pass, they speed up. well this went on for about 5-6 miles. Finally I got tired of it, so we approached the final traffic light on the two lane highway. The Prelude and the Integra was side by side at the light, I was behind the Integra in the rt. lane.Light goes green those to take off like a bat at hell, I was just gonna mind my own business but when I was in 2nd gear I just mashed it, hit 3rd, now coming up on Prelude then The Integra behind him both in the left lane, Integra saw me coming pulled over to rt.lane, Prelude moved over to rt.lane also, I was in the process of passing the Prelude when I herd him drop a gear, I new I was in 5th already so I went to 4th and just put the hammer down, I just kept pulling away from the lude, looked down real quick saw I was about 6k on the tach, hit 5th gear stayed on it a little longer then I new a turn was coming up soon so I let off and i think i was somewhere between 110-120mph when I let off and started slowing down for the turn.I was shaking like a leaf after that, and realized that was not to smart. My question is does anyone think that pushing my car like that did any thing to the engine or maycause premature wear in the future. This is my first Toyota product but I heard they are built to take high rpm's. I run mobile 1 oil and filter w/ half a bottle of Lucus synthetic oil treatment just to make sure! No more driving like that for me!
Cars will either hit a rev limiter or fuel cut...
And please everyone restrain u'rselves from usings lines like "Put the hammer down" when talking about driving a tC.
It is nearly impossible to damage a engine from running it that high. Now, prolong instance of staying in redline is a different story, also down shifting into the wrong gear and reving past redline is also a different story

no, when it comes to talking about the value of the car, one can't really complain... its impressive the value you get for the money... but u'r thread isn't how you raced interiors against the "lude".
as long as you dont do that all day long, or not too often, there pretty much is 0.00000001% damage. Plus it seems like you take care of the car. It's actually a good idea to step on it once in a while. But be careful on the streets! I wouldnt dare push the tC past 100 w/ stock tires.

As for high RPMs, you are thinking about Hondas. 8K redlines and no power until engine is screaming like a banshee.
Hey thanks for info guys!, O.K so I used the wrong choice of words, don't shoot me for it!LOL! Yea I guess u do gotta have fun once in the while, but It should be done on the track!
Damage? Ha. You barely woke her up. Our redline is pretty conservative. As long as the engine was warm and the oil wasn't exceedingly dirty (important to keep the VVT-i valvetrain bits happy), I'd say the only item that might have seen any extra wear would be your clutch. :D
You can drive a toyota like that all the time and as long as you keep changing the oil and maintain it, you'll get well over 100,000 miles. I got my '89 Celica when I was 15 years old w/ 90,000 miles on it, and beat the living hell out of it up to 180,000 miles, at which point i sold it for $300 less than I bought it for. I have a good friend with a '91 mr2 (n/a) that has a similar story. No worries mate, these engines are bullet proof.
