Hi everyone. I want to change the oil myself for the first time. Would I need to jack up the car to change the oil? And is a new drain plug gasket required with every oil change? thanks for any input.

UnFocused 08-08-2004, 11:00 PM since you have to ask these questions- I would not reccomend that you attempt to change it yourself..... Install new filter 6. Remove drain plug and let oil drain into bucket 7. Clean off drain plug and install NEW washer (Toyota has soft organic washers which can only be used once) and put on the drain plug, a good hand tightening does the job. 8. Lower the vehicle down 9. Fill with 3.9 quarts of oil 10. Reinstall oil cap 11. Turn on car and check to see if oil light goes off in about 3 seconds 12. If light is off close hood and you are good to go tcm_xB 09-16-2004, 05:39 PM Hi everyone. I want to change the oil myself for the first time. Would I need to jack up the car to change the oil? Speaking of that, what is the part number for the drain plug washer? I want to order some from a shop online (filters too) and can not find them. As far as lifting the Box. I'll leave mine on ground level. I crawled under my Box yesterday to see exactly where the oil filter and drain bolt are located. I was literary under the oil filter (it was a tight fit). But, the bolt and filter are so close to the front of the vehicle that I'll be able to do the entire oil change just by laying down right at the front bumper. I'm thinking 2 minute oil changes  xBizzle 09-16-2004, 06:42 PM Usually, if you need to replace a drain plug gasket/crush washer, it'll be included with the oil filter. That's how it is for my M3, but it's just a guess for the Scion. tcm_xB 09-16-2004, 10:56 PM Usually, if you need to replace a drain plug gasket/crush washer, it'll be included with the oil filter. Is yours lowered? Cuz with a 2 inch drop, it's a tight squeeze... tcm_xB 09-17-2004, 12:29 AM As far as lifting the Box. I'll leave mine on ground level. Is yours lowered?
