Default 2008 xB Price

I don't know the price of the new xB. Anyone know??? I wouldn't say the following is a great vehicle, but...

For Base MSRP:$14,985

You can get a new Jeep Patriot Sport:
http://www.jeep.com/en/patriot/

STANDARD FEATURES of this low end model: Electronic Stability Program, Traction Control, ABS, Electronic Roll Mitigation, and Side Curtain Airbags

The new xB better have side curtain airbags standard... and better sell for around 15K.

yeah Jeep!!!

I would def get the Jeep if I wanted a car that lost all its resale value after I drove off the lot and wanted mechanical problems for the whole time I owned the car...

If its anything like the Liberty .... my cousin finally traded hers in for a Murano just shortly after she bought it. The Liberty was in the shop at least once a month for several different reasons. Brakes ... Tranny ... Electrical .. etc. etc. etc.

BTW .... i have heard rumors that even with the new power plant, the price for the xb2 should only run about $700 more.

Jeeps can go places other usually cant but resale value and gas suffer.(although the patriot is just a rebaged caliber front wheel drive car) I rented a jeep liberty and was impressed with its interior but i couldn't believe how awful it was on gas. I agree with xbtalk that the new xb should have side air bags. If jeep can deliver side air bags in the patriot it will be a disappointment if scion won't.

i find it odd that even the current xA and xB models are a little strange...

you get side air bags in the xA... but not in the xB and the xB will end up even worse in a wreck then a xA in my opinion...

When are they going to be posting new pics of the new XB on here? Is it going to be the T2B or what? I heard that the new XB is going to have either the TC or Cammery engine. I think it should be supercharged. hehe

You will not see standard side bags on Scions anytime soon. Too many people have a problem with them when it comes to adding gauges, speakers, and other things.

What else does that 15k price get you? If I remember correctly, the patriot they tested in Car and Driver recently had an MSRP of 22k or so. But I could be wrong. I do know they thought the materials inside looked cheaper than a used rubber.

Why not? MANY cheap cars come with them now. The Honda Fit has 8 airbags and costs about the same as an xB.

If Scion upgrades to bigger, faster standard engines, but keeps the price low by leaving out standard safety features, that would be just plain stupid!

Personally with how often I tear my car apart I'm glad I don't have the side airbags to deal with.

Hopefully I won't get in an accident, although I have been in a few bad crashes before without them and have come out ok.

And the man has hit the spot, remember, the scions TARGET audience is 18-25 (I believe or somewhere around there) usually in that audience, safety, doesn't come to mind when purchasing it. Usually it's how fast does it go, what can I change, what can it bring, and is it cheap. Scion suits all those needs. The only thing is that now scion has expanded it's audience, first embraced by younger generation, to be loved by older people. I think that the side airbags should be there, but as an option. For people where safety comes to mind (like me) the option will definately be purchased, for the tuners... why are they going to pay extra for a feature that will give them more hastle. And marketing will like it to, "good side impact ratings, (with optional side impact airbags) and starting at $1x,xxx (of course without it)"

I'm guessing you're one of those of those who buy things that need assembling, see the first panel or two on the directions, compare it to the picture on the box, start assembling, and then wonder why half the the stuff in the box didn't make it into the final product?

The rest of the sentence is exactly why you won't see standard side bags in the Scion line up of cars until the gubment makes them. It has nothing to do with cost, and everything to do with the deconstructing/reconstructing that many Scions go through. When you have to account for gas discharge lines and high compression charges, it sort of discourages taking a saws all to the blank canvas that is a Scion.

Are you kidding? MANY? More like a small percentage. The vast majority of Scions on the road are bone stock.

I think you fell for the "blank canvas" marketing campain just like they wanted. Scions were never "designed to be customized" like they advertise. The first 2 Scions were cheap Japanese transplants with left hand drive. The next, pure U.S. only Scion, came stock with 17" rims and a glass roof. They use that personalization crap in their marketing campaigns to encourage people to buy pricey Scion accessories. All of the fine print under those "show cars" warn you not to void your warranty or negatively effect your saftey. "Off road use only" Don't kid yourself. And besides, any car can be customized, despite the number of standard safety features. Ask anyone with a bling bling'd up Lexus or Escalade.

I stand by my statement that it would be stupid for Scion/Toyota to introduce 2008 models and still offer, as an option, things that other car makers have been including standard for years. And those new POOR crash test ratings for small cars might just influence their plans. The cars in Miami were not production ready, so who knows what will come standard. I (someone in the target demographic) vote for side airbags.

<--- pretty sure side airbags will be optional, and probably packaged with TRAC/VSC on both xB and xD.

Do people not buy 4x4's that never see off road? Do people not buy ginormous 7 passenger SUV's with the hope that some day they may need to tow a boat that they don't yet own while at the sametime carrying 7 people?

Just because you see ton of bone stock Scion in your neck of the woods, does not mean that a) other parts of the country don't have a flourishing aftermarket culture (south florida or b) that buyers don't sign on the dotted line in the hopes that one day they'll have the money to put the lambo doors and the wall of woofers in the back.

I'm not saying that Scion is right or wrong in their decision, but the success is obvious. Has the market changed that much in 4 years? Maybe so. Personally, I'm with you, I'd like to see the side-bags myself, but I know the odds are slim.

Typical Daimler Chrysler sales tactic, lure you in with safety and a low price, but forget to add $1000+ for air conditioning and $900 for power windows/locks! Then the twice-a-year recall program, and a FWD Jeep (blasphemy at its highest)...yeah sign me up!!!

My RS2.0 xA with side airbags was $13,800 sticker I think.
