View Full Version : Installed my Exhaust today and..[New Pics on bottom of Pg 1]
KickAssKishan 12-26-2006, 11:01 PM So I got a Tanabe Concept G for christmas..and I installed it today..sounds pretty sick and i feel a wee bit gain
however...after driving for about 5 mins on the highway i smelt something funny..hoping it was that smelll exhausts give off for a while when installed..it wasnt...it was my rs1 rear lip melting..so then i took it off stuck in the trunk...got home and my and I put it back on so the Exhaust had more clearence (previously had barly any and touched the lip) and this is what we came out witha fter pusshing and botling for 40 minutes....

My question is...Is that maybe 1 cm enough for it not too melt?

fastandcurious 12-26-2006, 11:13 PM that looks too close for my comfort, especially if the tip gets hot to the touch which it probably does. my megan tip is about 1" to 1-1/2" from the bumper, and i haven't had problems yet. but yeah... if that's what you came up with, how was it before? was it actually touching? the way it is now, it might not burn literally, but if it's heating up the lip the paint might start to flake.
Yanki01 12-26-2006, 11:51 PM put something between the hanger and the rubber thing to get more space like this....

it cant be something too big or it wont fit, maybe .25" big or something???
3min3m2 12-27-2006, 12:18 AM squeeze that rubber hanger with a hose clamp...trust me...
KickAssKishan 12-27-2006, 12:53 AM Wait what do you guys mean soemthing inbetween? like what do i put?
this exhaust came with a rubber clamp to use on the right side of the back...heres a pic...and then i just used the rubber clamp it came with and took out the stock one

riboflavin 12-27-2006, 12:58 AM I used a metal clamp to sqeeze that rubber hanger, it helped a little, and my stock bumper never been melted.
I believe what they are describing is putting a hose clamp around the rubber hanger like a belt. The single eyelet will hook onto the car body and the double eyelet will hang on the muffler. So, put a hose clamp between the top (single) eyelet and the bottom (double) eyelet like a belt and tighten it. This will squeeze the rubber and elongate it a bit more. You want at least .5" clearance.
KickAssKishan 12-27-2006, 01:28 AM Wait...i still am not getting what you are saying...tallka bout slow moment..but this is what im comprehending...
takeing a hose clamp
http://imagescommerce.bcentral.com/merchantfiles/4939777/HOSE%20CLAMP.jpg
then doing what with it? bc at first i thought u ment to connect it to the top of the single eyelet and then to the car...but then it would wobble?

someone was saying heat the pipe and then push it together? or something like that..anyone herd of that?
KickAssKishan 12-27-2006, 01:33 AM OOO i am finally understanding what u meant...in Yanki's picture is that a clamp around his rubber hanger?

not too sure on what size tho? Nothing too big since it will be tightened then it becomes smaller.
fastandcurious 12-27-2006, 01:54 AM pardon my quick photoshop, but this is what they're talking about
http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b360/Gruv-E/s2010271vp7.jpg
as you tighten the bracket, it will squeeze the hanger giving you that extra space you might need.
thespottedcow 12-27-2006, 01:58 AM yup, i did that on my injen just to give it a little more room, i used zip ties on all 3 of the hangers, but im going to use hoseclamps next time im at work and can get some. itll give you the needed space, and on mine it rattles a little from hitting the underside of the car and its really annoying. hoseclamps, whoever thought of that, i love you xD
madmaxbb 12-27-2006, 02:11 AM :silly: Why not just pick up some new hangers that are a little longer from the parts store i did it on mine
