I don't know anything about transmissions. I have an auto tc and was thinkingto swap out the auto tranny for a manual (IN THE FUTURE.) I always here a lot of auto owners saying they're gonna swap.. but I've never seen anyone show that they got it done. All talk, no walk?

I heard swapping out the tranny and replacing it would cost around $2k, and make the car a lot less reliable. And if I do go down this road (which would be a long time from now) I wouldn't want a tC tranny. I'd like to go for something higher-end. IF thats possible.

Someone suggested a Supra tranny, but.. I doun't know if it's possible. And like Supra's... that probably a lot more expensive than a tC tranny.


Once again, I'm just GATHERING INFO, I'm not saying that I'm going to do this.

I am not an expert but i thought the Supra was a RWD car and ours is FWD so i dont think that it will work

 

x2. Im not a big engine person myself but would think it would be tooo much work and better off just tradding it in the auto for the 5spd? To many things to do to swap.

 

x3. the actual swap would be very unpractical. plus as indysolara mentioned, the supra has a straight tranny for RWD where as we have a sideways tranny for FWD

 

x4 just not possible drive trains are totally differnt. you would need to do a complete drive train swap for it to work.

 

I would x5 this, but I don't know how to multiply such high numbers.

 

Trying to fit a 2JZ transmission onto the 2AZ? You're better off putting the whole 2JZ into your tC. It'd be easier.

possiby ecu would be the biggest issue.

 

I also have a supra and no way in hell would it even fit. i would have to say it would be about 2.5 3 foot trans. You would have a better chance in sticking in a 7m

hmm, if you wanted a manual, why didn't you get it in the first place....i know most people say, "traffic, too much hassle"....blah blah blah....if you drive stick, you drive it cause you want to and you don't complain....plus if you had started with stick it would of been cheaper than gettin the auto...

 

Short answer; no.
Slightly longer answer; yes you probably could, but it would be such a major engeneering headache and money pit that it would be a completely impractical way to go.

its still pretty impratical even if u wanna switch to a 5 speed.

u'd hafta find a spare tranny from another tc, then isntall it, blah blah... makes the tC the cost of a base wrx... not worth it in the end... unless u plan to put more crap into it.

NO... common sense should tell you "hey dummy it wouldnt work"

 

no way you can fit a w58 or r134 tranny in a tc or even the 6 spd from the mk4 into a tc if anything hold out for whoever is making the 6 speed.
