ok i thought of this on the way to work today, i dont know much about doing swaps but i was wondering if there were any dsm people on here that might be able to give me some insight. what are the possibilities of swapping a 4g63t motor into a tc? i know the tranny is on the opposite side then ours so that would prolly be a problem. this is just an idea so please dont flame on me too hard... i saw a 2jz powered s2000 the other night on honda tech so i started thinking about swaps.. any info would help

ANYTHING is possible if you have the money.. sure, go ahead and swap something in.. but you'll have to get a lot of custom fabricating done.. in the end, you'll probably pay as much as your tC brand new.

a lot of these insane swaps are rare......... although LS powered RX-7's are somewhat popular.
As sp0t said, anything is possible....... but who knows what compenents you need, how much chassis cutting is necessary, cost, eletricals, a whole lots of stuff!
I wonder if anyone will try a Camry V6 swap.

A lot of work to put an unreliable engine in a tC.

If you're seriously interested in doing it, talk to Buschur Racing.

Man, 60% of the time DSM's work everytime...

Why would you want to spend all that time and money to put a 4g in a tC? work with the engine you have... Now a 6 cyl camry motor would be cool :)

The only thing Toyota has produced that is compareable to the 4G63 is the 2JZ. A camry is navel lint in comparison. :p

a swap for the camry six wouldnt be that difficult i would imaging... but a nice 2jz would be.... wait... i need to get some tissue...

It has every possibility of being just as difficult, if not moreso, due to the size difference.

You shot down the 4G63 idea, questioning the reason behind spending so much money...then going ahead and suggesting a larger, less powerful and less supported engine as being a cool idea.

God damn how many of these thread are there. Go buy the car with the motor you want. The Tc isnt a DSM and never will be if you want a DSM buy one. Otherwise quit with these lame posts that only take up bandwidth. You will never do this project so why even ask?

I still don't see where I compared the two? I simply asked why one would want to put a 4g in a scion tC. Being it’s a timely and expensive process. I think you may have misread something? Oh and yes I feel working with another Toyota engine would be cooler. Being you can still say your car is Toyota powered, but thats just one mans opinion.

 Hmm I wonder if I can put a LS1 in a tC NEW THREAD!

wow i so some stuff on this post that are still making me scratch my head... if you really thinking about a 4g63 swap (great motor) try keeping it in the toyota family and going with a 3sgte you will be more then happy with that engine in your tc.. an the work will be hard an take more then a few bucks... and as for the 2jz engine... LOL>>>> a inline 6 is not going to fit under the hood of a tc and if it did you would talking about making the tc rwd and that is another subject in its own..

4g63t maybe a workable powerhouse.. but its unreliable... i went through 2 of them in a matter of 2 years...
keeping it in the "family" definitely makes it a more interesting and unique mod...

Not sure why people get so worked up over so called "worthless" thread.. My understanding that is this a community, just like people discussing thing in person, why not allow them to do it online. Not all posts need to be relevant about scions or realistic proportions. If someone wants to share a thought about something, then let them share a thought. If you have something against the thread, keep it to yourself and just let the thread eventually die out.

Also there are people on here with a wide range of automotive knowledge. Some with no knowledge to people that are automotive gurus. Cut people some slack if they don't have the same knowledge as a guru.

I don't know about a DSM but a bluetop SR20DET should fit nicely in a TC. I don't think a motor swap in a TC is worth it. The engine bay is smaller than an AE86 and not to mention it's FWD.. Get a different car or go force induction if you wanna get more power.

Once we lock this thread we should see what kind of thread we could swap into this one to make it a real cool thread. You know maybe a thread about Skylines since they are fast and I could fit that drivetrain in my Tc. Since here on SL all we can do is complain about a car we ALL bought.
