View Full Version : XB windshield visor ???
shortbus55 12-28-2006, 04:17 PM Hi everyone. I have a question and I don't exactly know if I can make it make any sense but here it goes. I am curious to know if anyone knows if they make a windshiled visor thing like they have for trucks? I'll try to explain this....have you ever seen some trucks with something attached to the top part of the car just above the windshield that almost looks like a baseball cap bill??? I would LOVE to find one that's made for the XB but I don't think they make them. I have NO idea what they're called but I think it would look good on my Tonka Toaster. Any ideas? anyone have any idea what I'm talking about?? :nails:
JIMXB 12-28-2006, 04:44 PM No aftermarket availabilty on this item for Scion. I think I saw one a a PT Cruiser once, but have seen them on vans. This would need to be done as a one-of-a-kind custom part. It can done, start reading up on your DIY. Good Luck!
shortbus55 12-28-2006, 04:46 PM cool. thanks. I'm just glad someone knows what I'm trying to describe!!!
Easyoboe2 12-28-2006, 06:27 PM It seems like the windshield visor would be good idea, but I think it would be noisy on the highway.
cherryBox 12-28-2006, 06:36 PM you could get a heap of automotive modeling clay, heat it up, spackle it on the windshield, let it cool, shave it into shape with a cheese slicer, tape off the rest of the area, and fiberglass a mold...
from the mold, you could create a fiberglass piece that would mount up, or if you are really brave, create a reverse mold, and vaccum form some 1/8" plexi, and spray it black underneath...
If you were able to refine this process, you could start producing them, and selling them!
dgHotLava 12-28-2006, 06:38 PM was a fellow at the last VIP event.
had bought one for a different truck and had it worked to fit.
then he had it molded into the roof...scary if he needs to replace the windshield.
shortbus55 12-28-2006, 06:47 PM if I had that much talent I would definetly try to mold my own but I have a funny feeling that it would be noting but disater and frustration for me, the XB and everyone around me.

I was just gonna say the same. I believe the guy was older and this was the about the only mod he had done. The box was a BCP too if i remember correctly. Havent seen him since.
dgHotLava 12-31-2006, 12:47 PM correct....
losmorob 01-01-2007, 02:59 AM This has been on my list for some time.
Maybe an existing model could be modified?
I know they used to make these for V.W beetles.

Tomas 01-01-2007, 03:20 AM The curve of the top of the windshield is the same as the older RAV4, IIRC. See if anyone makes one for it?
Tom
cherryBox 01-01-2007, 03:40 AM good call tomas - i just searched, and couldn't find one, even on jcwhitney. That's not to say that there are none, I just didn't find any in the whole minute I spent looking.
looks like the keyword string to use contains 'cab visor'
Tomas 01-01-2007, 03:45 AM I know I've seen sun visors on RAV4s, finding them could be a problem. I'd start with Lund, but they may have come from some odd JDM source...

bB2NER 01-01-2007, 07:44 AM It won't help the areodymamics but yeah Just find one thats close and mod it to fit the way you want. I couldn't bring myself to drill mounting holes tho. ouch!!!!
losmorob 01-01-2007, 05:24 PM A lot of the truck type have brackets that tuck under the door jamb/weatherstripping.
Similar to where a roof rack mounts.
You may have to drill, but it would not be visible on the exterior.
Look at PT Cruiser parts websites for ideas. I swa one that was sheet metal with louvers that wouldn't take much to fabricate.
