i think i would honestly go with the JVC KW-AVX706 6.5" instead of a panisonic, I have jvc in my xb and the picture quality I think is a lot better than with a panisonic... jmo tho! they are also right around the same price as well.

the JVC can afford to be better quality because it's not touchscreen.

They have both of these head units at millionbuy.com for $550 - Now sure which one I'm picking up yet.

I have been wondering about the Panasonic all night (just got paid), I want to order it, but I dont know if the sound quality would be any good. Any reviews besides the only one on crutchfield?

I have the cq-vd6503u installed in the dash of my XA and love it... I have never felt that the picture wasn't clear enough and I cannot say enough about the touch screen feature. I love the fact that you can have complete control of dvd's, cd's and even the radio using the screen. I am not sure about other high end units, but for the price I can't see many other units that compare.[/img]

I have that same unit. Just put it in about a week ago and yes it's better than stock. It have a 8 band graphic EQ and built in crossovers for front and rear which is nice. The touch screen is great to even when it's cold. It has built in time alignment for speakers and you can raise and lower each speaker individually if you want. The only thing I don't like is the fact I can't find the NAV unit for it. I don't think it's available yet. Got it from Crutchfield for $650 shipped with the harness and the fillt brackets for the side. For the money you can't beat it.

How well does it work with an iPod and is there any hope of maintaining my steering wheel controls?

I found one on Amazon.com for a little under $500 but I like buying from well known companies and it came with everything I needed so it was all good. I hate haggling over prices.

Don't have an I-Pod but Panasonic has an I-Pod cable for it. The steering wheel controls can still be used but you have to get an interface from http://peripheralelectronics.com/. Check it out. I think they about $90 retail but you can get them cheaper.

Yeah, The sound quality is a definite inprovement from stock plus with the onscreen display to control the speakers and listening preferences you cannot go wrong. I shopped around finally decided on it after seeing it in Circuit City marked down to $799. I got mine for right around $500 and used the Metra dash kit to finish it off. The best part about the unit is the fact that it is touch screen and unlike many other models, basically everything can be controlled from the screen.

I'll probably end up getting this unit or its equivalent next year some time, as DVD touch screens will have gone down much more in price. That, and I just bought a new Panasonic head unit.
