Default What about other Toyota stereos?

A lot of other Toyota models use a double-DIN unit. Has anybody thought of buying one (or obtaining one from a wreck) and putting it in the Scion? It would look stock and possibly have a flat speaker output or RCA jacks.

The harness connectors in the rear might be different. Especially if the radio functions from the donor Toyota aren't the same as the Scion radio functions.

Toyota radios have the EXACT same outputs on the back as the Scion headunits. They all use the Eclipse (or Fujitsu 10) output plugs. No Toyota radios have RCA outputs, and only ones that are NON JBL will work, as JBL headunits have outboard amplifiers.

The only way that it might work is if you DO get a JBL headunit and intercept the signal PRIOR to the amp, which may provide a voltage-only output.

Seriously, though, just get an Eclipse headunit and enjoy not only all the preouts (5V!) that you could want, but perfect integration with your dash plugs and steering wheel controls.

I've been eyeing the FJ Cruiser unit since I first saw the show car... that would look great in a Scion.

All the Toyota NAV headunits have outboard amps, so it does make a bit more difficult.

All the Gen 5 Toyota NAV stuff have beautiful screens and animations. Really nice stuff.

Somebody posted about installing the toyota camry nav units awhile back- seemed pretty straightforward... if pricey.
