are you talking about the shifter shaft itself removing it from the linkage at the bottom?

just use something to spread the clip and then push the linkage down.

no, it's the actual shifter cables. the instructions say to turn the shifter cable ***** 360 degrees but i cant seem to loosen the **** to remove the plastic shifter assembly. i am trying to remove the shifter assembly so i can finish the rest of the install.

I used this walk through when I installed mine. I didn't have trouble getting the cables off just a little twist and pull.

Yeah, after talking to SquallLHeart, he told me not to even remove the shifter base. took his advice and about an hour later...victory! but i am having trouble with 2nd gear. i took the car out for a test drive and 2nd seems to just fall into gear. one time it wouldn't even engage. all of the other gears are fine. any suggestions?

when you first install a short shifter make sure everything is all put back together correctly... also make sure all parts are properly greased up.

the first time driving with it, you'll experience some clunking and perhaps a little hesitation... give it a little time and it'll smooth out much better after it settles in.

if not... i'd just check it over again.
