Hardwire the power for a PnP satellite radio??
Ok...before you remind me.....i know the manual says do not try and attempt to bypass the adapter and hardwire the unit. But the xB only has 1 power port and i hate the giant adapter that the satellite radio uses.
Has anyone here ever bypassed the adapter and hardwired the power?

I have a RoadyXT that uses 5 volt power. I took apart the cigarette lighter plug and soldered in wires which I tapped into the rear of the cigarette lighter wiring.
Here is what I posted in another thread. It worked for me and at least one other person was able to figure it out from this. Hope it helps.

Unscrew the end of the plug where the little spring-loaded pin is, then pry the cig. lighter case apart. Inside is a nice board with a fuse and those two ground connection bars. Remove the fuse and de-solder the red wire from where it goes through the board at J (right next to the capacitor). That's where you need to solder a new 12V wire, preferably through an inline fuse-holder with a 2 amp fuse (same as what you pulled out). The neg. connection is a little tougher, but it shouldn't be too bad. De-solder that big shiny thing with the wings that contact the sides of the cig. lighter socket or just bend it back and forth until it breaks off. There is a hole there (labeled Gnd) next to the slot used for holding that thing in place. Put your neg. wire through that hole and solder it in. Run the wires out through the tip of the cig lighter plug, snap it back together, screw the tip back on and hide it behind the dash somewhere.
DO NOT cut off the power plug if you are using XM. sending a striaght 12 volts to the unit will kill it and void the wanrranty for sure. so like above, solder a black wire to the negative terminal inside the adaptor and solder a red wire to the fuse terminal in the adaptor. route the wires out the opening of the adaptor and put it back together. then solder thos two wires to ignition and ground. you are done. cool thing is if you do it right, it can be reversed and used as a cigarette lighter adaptor. So take your time and don;t rush.
