Need help deciding...
Bottom line, I can't afford a 275-440 dollar intake.
Which should I go for, one of the ebay intakes below or stay stock?
There was some talk in the official intake thread that with the injen, aem, etc, you are just buying the name, but the ebay noname intakes can supply the exact same benefits just without the name...
eBay Intake #1
eBay Intake #2
eBay Intake #3
(I'm only really looking for a SRI by the way)
EDIT: I would be buying a quality filter from aem if I were to get one of these intakes

Name = Quality in most cases... don't shortchange yourself when it comes to performance. You get what you pay for.
Have you looked at the Fujita intake? I think it's less than the Injen.

Thanks for the input. I looked at all of em including the fujita. But like I said, i'm not looking for that kind or response where people try to convince me going for one of those.
I'm asking whether its stock or one of the ebay intakes. The debate over all of those other intakes is covered in other threads.

Play it safe and stay stock.
If you can't afford a nicer name brand, then can you afford to take the risk of damaging something and then not being able to get it fixed under warranty?
(I assume we're talking about CIA, if not, I'm an idiot)

I don't want people thinking i'm too cheap or anything, but I recently put in a nav and dont have the funds for a big name brand. But nonetheless, if I did, I don't know that its worth it. Like chris said, its just a pipe. The aem, trd, k&n, injen, etc are all just pipes as well, no? In fact, since i'm looking at the sri, there is not even all that much piping. Most of you seem to be saying to stay stock or invest in the big names, but what more do the big names have to offer?
Don't listen to these people who say it unsafe.
The injen intake is much more unsafe since it's CAI and the filter is down by the tire where rain water will get to it and cause a possible hydrolock.
The injen isn't going to out perform the ebay at all. With and intake it's going to sound cool at best. Just go with, and think about getting a good filter later. You will be happy.

Yea, i like the aem dryflow. I mean, a pipe is a pipe like theperchik and chris said.
I asked my stepdad (who is very knowledgable with cars) and he can't find a reason why it wouldn't be safe. He asked me if i've heard of any problems with any intakes. I said all I know of is some broken brackets and people misoiling their filter (i'd use dryflow anyway). The only other thing he brought up was warranty, but that shouldnt be a problem.
So he thinks its worth doing, but I am desperatly looking for a GOOD, VALID reason not to....something more sophisticated than "go with a brand name" "i don't trust ebay"

get the ebay one. I got my CAI off of ebay. its a bomz racing one and it works fine. doesnt shake or anything. I feel like i got the same hp gain as the trd and injen ones that they sell at the dealerships. So my vote is ebay intake.
Buy the Ebay one and put an AEM or Injen sticker on it. Only thing to check on is the thickness of the piping. You don't want a cheap aluminum can one. The filter, like you said, can be bought identical to the brand-named kits. Save your money, and get the ebay one. The concept is the same, again just make sure the thickness of the actual piping is good.
Yea, so i'm pretty convinced that it doesnt pay to spend all the money for a name brand one and for cheap, I can get an ebay pipe and throw a nice name brand filter on. I mean, its just a pipe, what harm could it do??
2 questions, bcnu, you said to make sure its a thick pipe. How thick should it be? I'll ask the guys on ebay, but I don't know what its supposed to be!
Also, does anybody know the diameter of the stock intake pipe? 2inches?

Honestly.... Ive built many motors and turbocharged many cars. What you are paying for is the brand name... and a filter. The filter is the most important part, everything else is a aluminum or carbon fiber pipe. The filter gives you the sound, a mean sound, however you can get that sound with the stock airbox, with some holes drilled in it, etc, and a good or cheap filter. But you want to keep the grime/dust/and dirt out of your system. This is where you want a quality filter, the best filters out there and have been proven my dyno, and other tests to prove the amount of debre sucked in to a minimum is K&N. I would go with a K&N, and the stock piping honestly if you want the best for your buck. Performance wise, all intakes are the same, but like I said, the ones on ebay are good except come with poor quality filters. So if you want a more mean sound (add in the aluminum pipe) you should buy an ebay intake, they are fairly cheap, and then add on a nice filter. You could also use the stock airbox, add a good filter in it and also add a pipe from ebay if you want a little more sound. Honestly, stock is best, but you sound like stock sound isnt cuttin it for you. Go with ebay and a K&N. Feel free to message me any more of your questions. Good luck
