Default What do u think about this custom box? **Sketch**

Hey everyone, well i just got done "editing" the custom xB FLUSH box from eD... its exactly like the one they designed except it has an extra hole in it so anyway here it is...

Its either that, or either I want to get 2 10" subs, on the sides than 2 15" subs in the middle, which it wont look the same as that box ^^^ up there.. itll be more customized, but if you have any ideas for me, please post them up, i am looking for something that takes up the entire area of the hatch.. and something that is for shows! :D thanks...
OH YEAH! and i want it painted BOP.. or sumthing close to that, because i am getting those amp racks for the rear windows on audioformz.com and im painting those blue, because i have blue interior lighting and my HU is blue, so i want to keep everything blue in my BOX haha..

Be sure to calculate volume per driver.

And be sure to divide to create individual "enclosures" inside. Those 15's will thrash the 10's if in one continuous enclosure and sound like poop.

Looks like he has 1 18" and 2 12". THe box would have to be HUGE. Good bye back seats.

In the sB you only have 37 inches between the shock towers so to fit more than say 3 12's you are gonna get into some in-depth woodwork. If you want something loud and that will fit well, go with 6 10's . With the box at a slant like that you can fit all six in there with 3 in a row stacked in two rows.

My question is why would you put 2 different sized subs in the same box? Its going to sound like absolute garbage. I work as a car audio installer, and i can tell you from personal experience, that you should go with one size of subs. If you go with different sizes, its going to sound like garbage. Period. Unless you chamber the box so that the 18 has its own box, and the 2 12's have their own seperate boxes, and you have some type of switching system that will switch from the 12's to the 18. you definately dont want them playing at the same time.

Go with 4 12's, or 6 10's if you want it loud. I've got 4 10's in my 04 and its pretty loud. I'm in the process of getting 4 more 12's for my 06 (already have 2 in there right now).

Edit:
Here is the box i built for the 4 10's

care much about storage space at all?
regardless if you do, i have a butt ton of settup drawings i've been thinking up of. from SPL to SQ so space saving and clean looking.

just give me a few to find a scanner around here and i can post what i got.

believe it or not, i've even got one i did with nothing but JBL GTI subs, 2x JBL W15GTI 15's and 2x JBL W10GTI 10's, W12GTI 12's aswell but that one is a TIGHT fit. this is all without loosing the rear seat.

MuNkY does have a point, i don't have these drawings, but few have i modeled and using diffrent sized drivers will call for some serious time alignment as well just to get everythign working all at the same time. larger drivers have ALOT more weight to thier cone and take longer to react while smaller coned drivers have less and react much faster. i would go with 4x 12's, this is better then 2x 15's and is nearly the same thing as having 2x 18's based on cone surface area.

amps suspended from the headliner would be awesome, somewhat unsturdy and rather deadly to those sitting in the back seat... but hey.... who cares about safety, its about how loud your system is...

but yeah.... do it....

actualy, most of the drawings and design models i've done have the amp mouted on the header above the storage area so that the rear passenger heads arn't in danger.

ofcourse this was based on the use of a JBL BPX2200.1 amp and nothing much bigger.

i could have said *hey lets put a 200lb A6000GTI on the headliner*

he could, but you can't just d ports to any design, they have to be properly tuned or else it will sound like crap. plus there isn't really enough room in the xB to go vented for loudness and SPL gains. without remng the rear seat you'r lookin at maybe 7-8 cubic feet to work with and thats using every square inch availeable. might as well stick to sealed, you may as well get a few extra db's out of it because when ti comes to properly tuning a venter design, using 4 12's with only 7-8 cubic foot to work with is extremely tight. even then you still need MORE room for the displacement of the vent "ports" AND displacement of the subs.

and now i'm done posting for the night... morning... whatever, Gnight.

stick with the same size subs. measure for the biggest box you want to use, then calculate the airspace (remember displacement for the speaker(s) and the port(s) if ported), then find speakers that will work within those parameters.

a properly designed single sub box will outperform 2 subs in an enclosure that isn't right for them. more is not always better.

While I agree that you shouldn't mix sub sizes, I don't agree that it has anything to do with the weight of the cone - a properly designed sub will have a motor structure that's able to nullify the extra weight...

however, ALL subwoofers are going to have different thiele/small parameters and will react differently to identical input signals. Only way to mix sub sizes would be to seperate the frequencies at which they're playing... for example - 1 19Ov.2 in a ~20Hz ported box and LPF'd around 40-50 then the 2 13Ov.2's in a sealed box with HPF where the 19O is LPF'd and then a LPF on the 13O's around 60-80Hz....

IMO, all that is just too much work... get 3 13Ov.2's in a 3cuft sealed box with a single Nine.1 on them... would be your best bet...

Okay, for redneckwithanxb im getting the amp racks from AudioFormz for the rear quarter windows and hanging them in there.. and as for everyone else, you do have a point lol about the different subs, so since you guys r the professionals ill stick to all the same sizes.... u said 6 10's or 4 12's? isn't there ANYTHING else i could put in there that would be alittle bit more WiLd looking? lol and MuNkY i love your box, that is something im loooking for, something like made outta fiberglasss or sumthing, because like i said this is going to be for show purposes also and for the sound of course.. but thank you all for helping me out with this, i am so lost but i think im finally starting to get it all, haha... but i will be most likely ordering my subs on the 22nd (My birthday) so that is why im trying to get the MOST info i could get... thanks

2 19Ov.2's would be pretty insane!!!

How about an absurd amount of 7Kv.2's like Chris... that'd be fun!!
