Default replacing the factory speakers

I am in the process of looking for new speakers to replace the factory ones. Would it be fairly easy for me to do the install myself or would most people recommend having a professional install them?

i would suggest someone else do it, mainly so that if something goes wrong its their fault. also, nothing would suck more than to have you FUBAR your new speakers... find a good LOCAL speaker store ( chains cost alot, like bestbuy) and have em install them. they may even give u a warrenty! GL and what speakers?

It depends on how technically inclined you are. There are many writeups on how to do this in the Tech section. Our car is a tinkertoy, made to modify.

Most chain store charge 40 bucks. This is for 45 minutes worth of work.

Fronts have a a speaker adaptor that is rivited in, that has to be drilled out. Rears require you take apart most of the back, including the rear seat and seat belts, or you could cheat and try to bend the interior out of the way with out damaging it. Those rear speakers are also rivited in.

If you would like I make speaker adapters to do this I could sell you a pair to make the install real easy.

Ask Jon at 1TDA.com. He might be able to recommend something for you.

I've done the majority of the work on my audio on my car. Here's what I say. If you are good with tools and own a dremel go for it. If not professional install is advised. If you are good with installs just buy some Elemental Designs stuff. They got good prices and they even have their very own xB to make stuff for. If you are going to rewire an amp for the speakers proffessional install is suggested. Pulling wires through the doors, pulling up carpet, and taking out seats is what you are looking at. Let me know if you have any questions. Honestly, It took me about 10 hours to put a HU, wire amps, wire speakers, put in speakers, and pull the xB apart and put it back together again. I've had two sets of components in the front. I will tell you right now I think the hardest part is running the wire not installing speakers. Good luck at whatever you choose to do. :D
