View Full Version : Scion xB vs. Nissan Cube??

My friend just showed me pictures of the Nissan Cube, and I personally think it is UGLY and that Nissan did a bad job copying the bB/xB's design. What is your opinions?

I like parts of it, particularly the assymetrical rear window. The interior also looks pretty good, and the e4wd would be a nice feature. I think it's sort of a compromise between the xB(looks and "performance") and the element(pure utility)

Being I have seen the Cube in person and just returned from Japan, I'm liking the Cube more and more. The inside is really nice and roomy but I do hate the rear door.
I saw some really nice Cubes in Japan so I would have to say I like it.

Now, would I trade my xB for a Cube? I don't think so!
I'll wait until Honda brings out the StyleWagon. Now, that's a nice box!!!!

I'll test drive one. It's not an SUV that gets 10MPG  I wonder what the MPG will be for the USDM cube? Nissan may want to switch the hinge on the rear door. It will be convenient for the USDM market.

I like both. Aside from the asymmetrical door on the Cube, I think its a very good looking take on the boxy style.

I especially like how it comes as an extended wheelbase model (Cubic) with 3 rows of seats. Not like I carry that many people with me anywhere but just having that much seating in a small car is different.

I think if they stuck a Cube and an xB in a blender and mixed 'em up. You would get one cool ride. Basically I like parts of both.

i had no idea that they were gonna make a USDM version of the Cube. I like it but Im still goin for the xB. Toyota just did it right the first time.

OK... now, I have to say I like the cube's overall styling a little better than the xB, especially the front end. The lines seem to flow more smoothly, at least to my eyes.

I don't know much about it except that it's a hair smaller than the bB and has a 1.4 liter engine with a bit less power (about 97-98 hp)

There is a CVT and an AWD version.

Nissan is allegedly serious about bringing these to the U.S. I'd like to see that happen, choice is nice. I will say I have a bit more faith in Toyota when it comes to reliability, but Nissan's not bad.

What I'd LOVE to see is Nissan give the ridiculous horsepower boost they do to almost all their other models.

Nissan: Bring a Cube with 125-130 hp and you will have our undivided attention. 8)

I could see Nissan doing this long before conservative ol' Toyota.

FYI, the Cube didn't copy the xB's design, it's been around longer than the xB.

Also, Toyota did not invent the small boxy-type car. There are 10 bizzillion different models like this from every manufacturer in Japan.

The xB is nothing new, it's just new to Americans.

I like the Cube's over all design more then the xB too, and I really like that bench seat design for the front seats (hahahha) , and that little umbera holding space in the back. I also like how the truck (?) door opens sideways instead of up like my xB.
However, my xB is still the love of my life.

oh... and I was watching Hot Version... it seems like you can drift with the nissian cube .... :)

I'm partial to the xB myself, but I'm definitely going to test drive a Cube when they arrive here to really compare the two...

The only reason I knock the Cube for style points is the rear quarter panel on the left hand side...Theres a body colered pillar on the right side, and a black window wrapping all the way around on the left side...It makes it look incomplete...I'd say either have two body colored pillars, or have the entire window wrap around and leave the center black...

Just my .02 cents :D

i don't know..I've always been a nissan guy, but it looks kinda girly and stuff. and the hatch that open's from the side= so stupid. But those honeycomb looking wheels are spiffy. Nissan's build quality, or lack thereof, may be a problem. I mean at least Honda and Toyota/Scion usually have good fit/finish/reliability. anybody know the projected msrp for these cubes?

I like the cube's body styling, the front end kicks ___ and the asymmetric back is cool looking. I haven't sat inside it or driven it, but if we're just going on looks i like it more than the xb.

I'm sold to the Cube. don't get me wrong, i still love my xB and use it as my daily driver. I've been looking for a low gas milage car that will seat at least 6. SUV and minivan just don't count.
when are they bringing this here? if its less than $20K i'll even buy it cash.

I agree on the Nissan quality issue. I disassemble wrecked vehicles everyday (no exotics) and Honda & Toyota beat everybody hands down in the areas of fit, quality of materials, ergonomics, and built in safety. Please don't get me wrong--Nissan's not bad. I just feel that they could do much better on the build quality than they do. Infiniti (made by Nissan) has a great degree of build quality. I would guess that Nissan saves it for the high dollar models. It would seem that they only invest the extra effort in their "flagship" vehicles. Obviously a $$$ issue, but I don't feel that it would cost Nissan that much more to step it up.

I do like the front end of the Cube better than my beloved xB (no fat lip), but I don't think that I would buy one due to my lack of faith in Nissan quality.

I would find a way to morph the Cube's front end on to my xB before I purchased a Cube. In fact, I just might look into that. 8)

Don't like it...looks like they tried to inbreed a Element and an xB. Third row seating?? Form the rearend collisions I have seen on this site, the only people that you would want in the third row are people that you do not like very much. The one thing that I will give props to is the rear door, looks as if it swings out instead of up, that looks pretty cool. Just my opinion.

While overall I do prefer the xB, I MUCH prefer the Cube's front end, it's got a nice profile, and I have to say while I love the xB, the front bumper is just way too huge.

I like the cube based on looks and I like that how the back door opens sideways. Dont get me wrong, I like the ones that open upwards but I went to open up one on a Chevy Trailblazer and the dumb thing near lifted me in the air with it.

But if I had to choose between an xb and the cube I'd most likely go for the xb(or get both) .

The Cube did come out before the bB, but it looked nothing like the current model does. I'm not accusing Nissan of copying. I will say, however, that the redesign of the Cube is ironic at best, considering the success of the bB.

I like them both. They are both "controversial" designs that I like. Out of the blocks tho', I'd take the xB over the cube since I feel that the xB looks better, slightly more agressive. The roundness of the cube turns me off a little.

But, you throw a kit on the cube and it's neck and neck with the xB in my book.

I like the xB's mean-face, squared-jaw, and stone-look with a fat lip. It reminds me of a scaled version of a mack truck. Although the Cube's concept of efficiency, utilitarianism, and environmental/global conservatism is great, it looks like a bastard child of an Element and an xB.

But I used to think that an xB looked like the bastard child of the Hummer, but now I love the xB and laugh at the silly mom struggling for eight minutes and twenty-two seconds to pull her Hummer into a parking space at the grocery store.

Long lives the Box (no matter who builds it)!

you should hunt down the box that started it all, the Classic Mini. The Cube seems to have a Mini-like look woth the bug-eyes headlights. Not a bad looking car but i still like the xB. The xB looks meaner.

I like the xB better, but I love the Cube, its great.

After I sat in one about two years ago at the L.A. autoshow

I got a good look at it, and it seems like a fun car, alot of potential.

Another boxy wagon on the road is good news.

actually i kinda like that design. The newer Internationals don't look that bad for a Semi/Box van vehicle. The new front nose piece looks kinda stylish. The craziest thing about that brute is the price, 100+ grand  . Also, they'd have to scale its abilities down unless they include class-B CDL classes in the price

damn. its bad enough with these wackos driving these huge RVs without CDLs. Now these things thats basically a Box Van with a pickup bed in place of the box? theres a good reason Semi's, Box Vans, and Buses require special licenses to drive.

of course a scion forum is going to pick a scion. there's tons of other k cars and style wagons in japan so like many others have said it's nothing new.

the funny thing is there's not much bB's running around as there are Cubes (at least in the greater Tokyo area). just like a lot of stock cars, it needs improvement but i've seen some really nice ones. i'd personally get a Honda Fit or the Nissan March for a sub-sub-compact.

on a side note... k-cars are fun!! shoving 5 full grown men into one seems unlikely but still possible!

btw, if any of you think the xB is a k-car... yah just don't know. (when you can fit a car through what seems like a pedestrian/bike lane bridge with ease, that's a k-car!!)
