Default Is my sport shift **** defective?

I got the mesh sport shift **** from Partznet.com. It came today. On the top portion of the **** is a silver disk with OBX stamped in it and with 5 allen bolts around the perimeter.

The instruction sheet says to screw the **** on until it is tight and then use the enclosed allen wrench to rotate the top disk to make the OBX horizontal. It implies that the bolts are for show, that you can't actually tighten them, that the allen wrench is just to rotate it.

Well, my disk is loose. I can easily rotate it with my fingers. The OBX letters will therefore not remain horizontal.

So, should I consider this to be a defect or just accept it? Does anyone else have this ****? If so, is your disk loose?

I guess this makes me a member of the "I'm picky about my tC" club.

Maybe the whole disk has threads? Have you tried turning it clockwise as far as it would go? or does it just keep spinning? I haven't seen one of these in person so I don't know. Email Partznet and see if they can help you.

I have the NON-mesh one, but mine was easy to install. I did not have to turn the top of the OBX part witht he allen wrench. It NEVER spun either. Did yours spin before you started tooling with it?

I just screwed mine in. It was tight enough and the letter were horizontal. It was a pretty easy task. I know there is a adapter in there for the auto also. Not sure what you have though.

No, you just move it sideways from "D" to "3" to lock out OD.

What they call the "top garnish cap" was loose both before and after install. I will call partznet today.

OBX is a poopy brand... I don't know why people buy their crappy products. You guys were better off buying the original shift **** by MOMO, not some ____ty OBX copy...

Yes, the MOMO are nice, but they are $70 and up MORE than the OBX one I have. My OBX looks damn nice too, as mentioned before, it's not really for performance, mainly looks. I have an auto anyways....so it's not like I'm playing with my **** often.

I totally agree.... I have a Carbon fiber Momo shift **** with boot, and you just can't beat momo quality.

Looks? ha! When people see that, they are gonna thing "OBX, what the...lame...a shift **** for an auto? what's next? shift light?" OBX is just as poor quality as APC. Those rally-style OBX ***** are so cheap-bling-bling looking too... *shrug* c'est la vie...

poopy, i bought a Razo, which i thought was nice. Yea... the OBX ones, i dunno, they look kinda like huge light bulbs to me.

is it really worth it to switch over to a Momo shift **** (manual of course)? i'm asking as far as comfort as well as looks. Will it give me 15 more whp? :D

I'm personally looking at getting a Razo shift **** (RA97? 98? can't remember). The Momo shift ***** are very nice, My friend has one for his WRX. But I didn't like any of the styles for my xA...

What does being a moderator have to do with having an opinion? It's a fact that OBX products are poorly made. Most of their shift ***** are Razo and Momo knock offs.

Sheesh, I don't race and I'm not out to impress anyone.....I like it, so there you go. I would rather spend the extra $70 on door sills....already did ;)

I don't hang around rice heads who care what shifter is in your car.

I actually think the OBX pedals are my favorite for the tC right now. I've looked at all the Sparcos and Momos and others, and I think the OBXs look the best. I might have to get some.

I agree that their pedals are nicer than the Momo and Sparco pedals. And they just slip on, no? Pedals are pedals...but when it comes to shift *****, I rather not feel soemthing falling apart in my hand as I shift gears... The OBX shift ***** they sell at the dealer are all plastic (minus the Momo rally-style *****)...and you can see/feel the mold seams. Do a search, people complained about them left and right...

And flashy door sills are any less of an "impressment-only" customization?

Meh. I got the sport mesh OBX **** because I liked the look of it. And from the test drive, it didn't fall off nor was it poorly made - wow!

If anyone comes in my car and says "obx.. lame" I'll kindly drop their bumming asses off and they can walk to where they want/need to go.

You got me there on the door sills. I guess I wanted them for myself. I just said I don't try to impress people with my car. I like making the little added mod here and there, but nothing too crazy. I liked the way the door sills looked. So, I guess I care about the looks of my car, only to myself though....could care less what other think about it.

Stock **** is ergonomical and feels nice and heavy. The only one that I would change it to is same style/shape/feel, but covered in leather (kinda like TRD knowb, but without the stupid logo on the side).
