Hi - I have dealer-installed fog lights on my box. They only turn on when the headlights are also on. I thought the point of fog lights was to have light near the road that wasn't reflecting off fog. Is this how xB fog lights are supposed to work?

Thanks!

you're not supposed to be driving in nighttime fog with JUST the foglights on. You'll get yourself killed doing that. What youre NOT SUPPOSED to do is use the HIGH BEAMS. They refract off the water droplets to much and causes the white wall effect.

The fog lights simply fill out the dark areas down low and in your immediate path, the low beams will fill in the rest and project far enough down the road for you drive safely

Most cars foglights only come on when the headlights are on. My Integra and Celica were both like that. I'm not sure why. Maybe someone good with electrical has found a way to rewire them so you can completely control them. Seems like there was an article in Sport Compact Car a long time ago and they showed how to do it on a WRX.

well foglamps will turn off when the high beams are clicked on or the headlights are off. I know that in a Ford Ranger you can bend ( with your hands) one of the circuts in the computer and that will allow you to use the foglamps while the high beams are on but i dont think this would work in a scion and if it did someone would need to find which circut it is.

With the complex search string of "foglight wiring", I found this:

Do it at your own risk. Could also be illegal in some states... I'm talking about the rewiring, not the searching.
