Default Scion tC parts avaliabilty in the future?

Was talkin to a friend about getting the tC, and he was like, that you'll have a hard time getting parts for it in like 8 years or whatever.

Is that true?

lol

I don't think you are going to have trouble getting parts for it EVER. there are soooo many companys and sooo many stores that sell the products its ridiculous. Companies are spending a lot of money as we speak developing new parts...i'd not be worried!

hell yeah. Drive my cars as long as I can. Previous new car was a 1978 Toyota Celica, daily driver until 2000, then bought a used 97 dodge stratus. Had to give up the toyota cuz it wouldnt pass smog, but it was running fine and on original drivetrain and everything. The dodge is having tranny probs, and costs more than its worth to fix, so I think its about time to get a new ride. I love the tC.

In that case, this is a toyota which shares engine parts with the 4-cyl camry...lets leave it at that lol

This isn't some little no name brand, this is scion, made by toyota. I really don't anticipate any problems. (this is the first i've heard of anyone with this concern quite honestly)

Yeah, thats what I thought, about the parts being shared with Camry. I was sorta going WTF when he told me that, but I thought it was worth making sure about.

id say dont worry about it, im sure Toyota/ Scion has something up their sleeve for this. and i went through the same thing as you did; i had a dodge avenger, then the repairs came so high that it became useless to even repair anymore. and not to mention, getting parts for that thing were a punk to start out with.. to give you a hint Dodge label, Mitsu engine, and according to the dealer German parts... yeah it was wierd.. but hey now i have the tC

It's a Toyota...not a Ferrari. Why would you have a hard time getting parts for it?

The reason parts can get tough to find after 7-8 years is that's all the original manufacturer (Toyota, Honda, Ford, etc...) is required by law to have parts available for a vehicle model year. After that it's optional.

Yeah, but this is Toyota we're talking about. I could still get parts for my 85 supra 2 years ago... and THOSE parts were exclusive to the car. Our car has parts shared with several other Toyota cars out there.

Besides... again it's a Toyota. In 8 years you probably won't be needing parts yet.

Agreed.

My sis was still buying parts for our old 85 Camry in 98.
I've only run into one problem of toyota not stocking a part any longer and that was a rare interior option only part on a 95 Camry (center console lid cushion).
They produce replacement body and interion parts for quite some time after the model changes and those parts can remain in stock for quite a few decades depending on demand.
Engine and tranny parts are another story since toyota uses them with minor changes for multiple generations.

I think the requirement by law is 20 years they have to keep making parts. I could be wrong, but I can still get parts for my 88 735i.
