I just bought the car about 2 weeks ago, and it's got about 940 miles on it, now their are alot of diffrent views on how to break it in, basically i usually shift around 3,000 but sometimes ill take it to 4,500 or 5,000, and when im on the freewa ill coast at 4,000 almost the whole time in on the freeway, so am idoing it all wrong? and how long would you say the car needs to be broken in 1,000 miles 2,000 miles, 3,000 miles ect

I think its about 5000 then you can start playing with it but not rushing it the whole time then once at 15000 its as broken in as its ever going to be

Yeah, do the normal driving for a good 1000 miles (slow, medium, fast). Don't baby it and don't dog it either. Just drive it, wear it in like you have been and now that it's about 1000 miles, start to open it up if you want to. I still do about 90% normal driving and only run it hard on Friday nights. Just the weekend racer. Any other time, i'm coasting at 80 on I-95 heading to/from work.

you shouldn't coast at a constant speed for too long, shift your speed ranges... go from like 80 to 70 to 90. you shouldnt let the motor get used to running at a set speed for too long. alot of highway driving isn't recommended for the first 1,000 and hard braking isn't recommended either.

you did fine, you can't really break in a car incorrectly nowadays. you're supposed to experience most of the powerband and not stay constantly at the same rpm, other than that, anything goes. enjoy your car!

there have been many magazines that have tried to figure out this break in myth.... and it seems like every time it comes down to... drive it like your going to be driving it. make sure to change the oil at 1k along wth the tranny fluid at 3k is what ive heard for lots of cars.

Ummm mine redlines at 6800. I have a digital rpm meter and it records it at 6800 when I am running it up to redline.

Never the less, if you want to break in a car, don't run it hardcore, differentiate constant speeds, just baby it for the first 1,000 miles or so while the seals and fluids get used to each other. Don't drive behind big rigs for the first 2,000 miles or you replace ur windshield, and don't honk your horn with the temp plates on or you get key marks. :silly:

Do you have some sort of emanage? Stock tC engines top out at 6500. Not doubting you, but just curious. Where do you have your digital rpm meter tapped into (what wire)? I might look into that.

Well, maybe the 07s pushed the hp band up a bit so maybe it's like this:

06 tC
-peak hp at 5700
-redline at 6200
-tach out at 6500

07 tC
-peak hp at 6000
-redline at 6200
-tach out at 6800

Just seems weird that it's 300 rpm different. It's only a 1 hp difference, if any at all, on the total output of the tC. 06 was 160 and 07 is 161.

well, from the few 07's dyno, they seem to dyno more than 05-06. And there is also the question of when they switch from old to new SAE ratings

Yeah, 07 is rated at 161 hp/ 162 tq...........whp for the 06 is between 137-141......every single engine is different so it's almost impossible to say what a car has for whp. I would assume the 07 would have either the same or a range of 139-143............absolutely nothing noticeable.
