Slotted Rotors to stop pad squeal?
I am currently running the Hawk HPS brake pads on the stock rotors. By changing the stock rotors to slotted rotors would that help the squeaking noise to stop from the brake pad? I like the pads but squeak like crazy after the rotor surface smoothed out after couple hundred miles.
Take off your rotors and rough them up with some sand paper. Do the same to your brake pads. Also check if you can get some shims for the back of your pads, if not get some of the blue brake sqeal stuff. It sound like your pads are getting glazed over. The same thing used to happen to my old POS sentra. Slotted rotors would prevent glazing because the have small edges that clean the surface of the pad. Also you could get a squeal because semi metalic pads on metal rotors. Metal on metal. If it is that there is little to be done.
Yeah.. I already have plenty of the blue squeal stuff on the pads with the shims. It definitely is the pad material itself, I know others are having this problem with the Hawk pads too.
I was thinking that since the slots clean the pads that it could help with the squeaking.
Great tip on the sand paper, I think I will probably give that a try. Thanks.
