View Full Version : The Legacy of Installing bBist LED tail lights

So at around 7:30pm I pull the car into the garage, and my dad and I tear apart the back end so I can install my new tails. We get one side done, and decide to test it... below is what happened...

Attempt 1: running lights, no brakes.
Attempt 2: no running lights, no brakes.

Now, after the first attempt, i flipped the LED connector as instructed by the included instructions. This produced the second attempt results.

Okay, I think... I've blown a fuse somehow. So i learn which fuses go where, and pull them... to confirm, yes, i have blown the tail fuse. So i replace it... and discover through more attempts that i've also blown the stop fuse. the F word.

At this point, I go out in search of replacement fuses (this is before I realize i have a spare under the hood...)

Another attempt, another blown fuse later, I look at the wiring on the tail light and discover that they're not wired the same...

So, I decide to install the Right side (Passenger) tail and see if it's wired correctly. And, it is.

To make a long story short, I had to rewire the driver's side tail light. What was a 1hr install turned into a 3 1/2 hour install with 5 blown fuses.

Time to email bBist and make them aware of it.

Lights look awesome now! pics tomorrow after i wash her!

he said they'd be up tommorow.

quality control = bleh apparently. that's not a mistake that should be made.

ah well, at least you found the culprit and fixed it!

That sucks! That's like the Anzo taillights (I think) where you have to do some fix for it to work right. What kind of crap is that?

Also, what all did you have to do to get the taillights in and hooked up (assuming they worked right)? It shouldn't take but 15min. to install the tails. You don't have to pull the whole bumper off. I think it's like one of those plastic things and a screw on each side and unbolt and rebolt tails.

The anzo's don't need any fixes, you gotta just plug them in both ways to see which way they're supposed to be.

What spare fuses are there under the hood? Does the car have like a little fuse removal tool somewhere? Gettin them out is a b****.

Yeah, I didn't completely remove the bumper. I just pulled the clip at the bottom, the screw in the wheel well, and the screw at the hatch. the pain was detaching it from the clips. I felt like i was going to break something the entire time.

What took all the time was dealing with the blown fuses...

There are 3 spare fuses... 10A, 20A, 30A. They're in the lid of the engine compartment fusebox, along with the tool.

I was. Frankly, I think they're better looking tails than the TYC's, but you don't see me going around telling people i'm throwing up when i see the TYC's on a tC.
