Default how do you tell an RS from a standard xB

I am curious if anybody could explain to me what the difference between a stock standard xB and an RS model..

are these factory options? perhaps part of TRD?
how can you tell if you have one?

thanks in advance for any and all help

they are colors that u normally cant get on a standard xb
they offer either entertainment or performance upgrades (like a strut bar) as standard equipment
they are limited in production numbers

The RS 1 is the Lava Orange color. Sure, you can paint any box that color but good luck in finding the same RS1 upholstery.

The RS2 is yellow, has turn lights on the side mirrors, both paint and side mirrors can be gotten aftermarket. Still, no aftermarket offers the same upper grille and the upholstery can't be found anywhere else.

The RS3 and 4 I am less familiar with but with the 3 I do know the upper grille is different still. The headrest vidoe can be done aftermarket.

I saw my first RS4 a few days ago in Perris, CA. The paint would be an expensive proposition to do on any other xB. To do it correctly you would have to strip the car completely.

It's also worth mentioning that RS xBs have RS badges on the dash.

The RS3 also comes w/ a color keyed stut tie bar. We have an RS4 and its got an as I told by the dealership an $8K paint job. It also comes w/ the spolier, and the TYC tailights and they painted the black area the same color as the car! Plus 8-color leds under the dash and in the cup holders as well.

If it's the RS3 xB that you are referring to, Kanchi, then the TRD strut bar was not part of the RS package. It was actually offered in an extremely limited run of 700 or so. They could be purchased separately from a Toyota parts dealer. I wish they all had them, then I would have gotten one.

While the RS4 has a nice paint job, your dealer is full of ____. He expects you to belive an $18,000 car came with an $8,000 paint job?

The way to tell is that a RS xB will have a dash placard above the glovebox identifying it a RS0x #xxxx showing the release series # 1,2,3 or 4 and the release series # out of the total of that release produced (less than 2500 in most cases). RS 1's are all Hot Lava orange in color. RS 2's are Solar Yellow, RS 3's are Envy Green , and RS 4's are Torched Penny (a color changing dark coppery color). All RS have options that are specific to that release series...Different combos of grilles spoilers shift ***** etc.

^^ that's pretty true

the RS4 is pretty much stock... the only real thing that sets it off apart from the others is the paint job.

you're paying the RS package for pretty much paint.

and yea.. easiest way to tell is color of the car.

Aftermarket. The only body part that set the RS's apart was the spoiler. Non-RS's could have one but it is a dealer option.

Madmike, the box you just got began its life as a stock xB. All of those add ons are available aftermarket. The strut bar might be TRD, but a 2 inch drop wouldn't be TRD as the TRD springs are only 1 inch. The wheels are aftermarket, and the hood is certainly aftermarket. So some of the work has been done for you.

Looks nice. Congrats.
