Classic xB 1.5L - starting $14,610

New xB = 2.4L, it's longer, wider, has bigger wheels(5-lug), projector headlights, more gauges, and various other new things...

Starting base price?

at the very least its going to be the corolla 1.8, though the camry 2.4 is quite possible. estimates are projected @ +$1500 over the current model, will the pricing be available by thursday? Scion can't afford to make the new xB to really rack up some dollars on the sticker because that it looses its appeal to the younger buyers who can't afford an expensive car. hell...if you're spending $18k on a base xB you're better off getting a Mazda3 or something. About $16,000...less than $16,500 is my estimate.

I wouldn't count on a final (exact) price on Thursday... They might mention how much it will be "around" or starting "under $__", but not the real price.

I'd say about the price of the tC right now. That's my guess, any higher and some may not be able to afford it...

I worried about them jacking the price up ALOT...$1000-$1500 over the current is okay, but any higher will make me consider something else when I trade....

How much is the spec tC? It should be around there... If it has the 2.4.

It should be less than a tC because it probably won't have a moonroof or 17" rims.

About $15,500(manual) - $16,500(auto) That's my guess.

tC Spec Pricing for the Don:

Manual = $15,580
Auto = $16,380

I agree that it should be around there too. I haven't really heard anything though.

How would you react if it only went up, say, $250? For comparisons sake, look at the Rav4. Went from a tiny little SUV with a tiny little motor, to clost to the size of a Highlander, added the 2.4, and the price went up maybe $150. The Sienna grew in size and standard features, but not in price. The new camry added standard side airbags, brand spanking new model, and it only went up $225.

there is cause for at least a little bit of hopefull enthusiasm.

I preordered my xB when they first came out in CA. From my perspective, much of the allure of the xB is in the bang for the buck. If they truly do bump it up more than 1.5k, they are seriously diverting their target market. The fuel economy presumably won't be as good due to the larger engine too. The new styling is nice, but I think they are slowly stepping away from their initial selling points. I'll have to seriously weigh my other options (although I'll probably still get one :D ).

Apparently someone at the miami show heard the Scion VP say that both will go up about $1,500. AT that price they've lost their core market and there are many more attractive cars in that price range. I think Scion has lost site of their intial idea in every aspect. From concept, to practicality, to price. Sure, these new cars will sell but with the dumbed down looks and horrible effeciency, there are going to be alot of people looking elsewhere.

edited for spelling.

If it goes up $1,500 this thing will really back fire. At that point you can spend a little more and get a better vehicle or spend a lot less and buy a used <=2006 xB.

I'm not defending the xB2 overall, as I think alot of the marketing decisions made were misguided... but do you really think that $1500 is too much to pay for the increased hp (with mad potential hp) as well as 4 wheel discs, not to mention the 6 airbags? Just the first two alone would cost over $5k in mods to the 1st gen to match those specs, with less-than-bulletproof reliability.

Yea I know the weight is up and economy is down, but looks aside, there is alot more car here for $1500 over the origional.

If I were an exec @ Scion I would look at all the feedback from this forum (and others) and come out with a sub-xB car, perhaps based on the Aygo, that has the size and wackiness of the 1st gen but modernized. Even if they do Honda will probably beat them to it...

^^^ You guys know if that car came out for under $11k, and didn't suck, half of us would be seriously considering it...

I would guess that Scion will release some kind of price later this week as both cars have been released. :pray:

I wouldn't count on it. tC was announced a few months before it came out. I think February as well with a may release. Then in March they showed pics, then April the said well under 20k, then may they finally launched the car and about a week before it hit showrooms, we were all talking about it's 16,495 price tag. (isn't that the right price? I don't remember)

but yeah, toyota is pretty secretive about it's new stuff.

im still thinking with the new engine, gauges, air bags, cruise, etc..im thinking its at least gonna be 16,000 for a manual, and 17,000 for an AT. I would actually want the AT but looks like I may be keeping my 1st-gen...

tC comes with alloys and moon roof... same engine and similar features now (6 air bags etc, disc brakes,etc). I think 15,500 and 16,000 is as high as Scion can go without loosing it's market.

THE_DON

Think about it....

When the first two Scions came out, they planned to sell way more xAs because it was the cheaper model. Wrong. The more expensive model sold better. (although for other reasons, like bodystyle)

In any case, they came out with the option packed $17k+ tC and sold even more!
So, to Scion, the more features and horsepower they add, the more they sell.

Supply and demand suggests that we will probably never see another "cheap" Scion. $12-$13k? Forget it. That's what the Yaris is for.
