Default HU Wiring Harness question

The guys at Al & Ed's sold me the standard Toyota 2 plug adapter harness to wire up to my new alpine HU.

But the plugs that come out of the back of the Pioneer HU are smaller and don't fit into the harness they sold me.

I asked them about this, and they said there is an external amplifier that the harness from the Pioneer connects to, and that I need to plug the adapter harness they sold me into the plugs that come out of the external amp.

...Ok, if this is true, where's the external amp??? I've searched high and low and can't find it.

Anyone have an idea?

The Pioneer radio that comes in the Scion have the same plugs as any late model Toyota/Scion. I bought a standard toyota plug and wired it to my Eclipse plug w/o any problems.

When you say "Late Model", how LATE are you referring?

Because the plug they sold me is the same one that fits my 1999 4Runner.

the harness for toyota vehicles havent changed for any model for a long long long time now...what you do is just wire up the harness they sold you to the harness that comes with the headunit you bought...simple as cake..just take out the pioneer radio, unclip the harness from that radio and wire up the harness they sold you to the aftermarket headunit harness and plug and play

But it isn't matching, thats my point. The plugs in the back of the Pioneer are smaller than the plugs they sold me.

On the back of the Pioneer, there are 4 plugs, 1 for the steering wheel, one for the iPod cable, and the typical 2 plugs for power/speaker/ancillary wires.

But the adapter they sold me does fit my 4runner.

anyway you could take a picture for me? i've been doing car stereo installations for a while now for best buy and im confused..lol. did you happen to buy the smart harness (plug and play harness which can be found at circuit city)? or did you just get the harness where you have to do the wiring? the ones that best buy carry are the ones where you have to match up the wires and do it yourself. It would be very helpful if i can see pics of the harness they sold you.

Evening folks... Problem resolved. They handed me the wrong harness. I was also mistaken that it would have fit my 4runner.

The new system is in, and I'll be posting some pics soon.

I appreciate all your input!
