View Full Version : Anyone come up with a better sun visor?

The sun visor on my xB sucks.. there's a big gap around the rearview mirror where it doesn't shade and when I rotate it over to the left, it doesn't reach back far enough. A good chunk of my commute home puts the sun directly to my left and the visor isn't long enough to block it.

I'd much rather have two seperate visors, one for the left and one for the front. That way, each could be optimized to cover the space.

Is there anything available aftermarket that does a better job than the stock piece?

a decent auto upholstery shop could fab you some new factory looking ones using your mounting hardware in a day.

Some solutions:

Put a big sticker on your windshield to fill the gap between visors

Wear a hat with enough visor to shade your eyes

Remove the driver grab handle and mount another visor there

Get those dark tinted static cling things to stick on your window

Get sunglasses with side pieces that block light from the side

Use a binder clip to attach a cardboard extension to you visor

Tough it out until standard time when you'll commute in the dark

I bought teh standard size round sun visors from Wal-Mart. They fill the windshield perfectly. I think they cost me $6 each. Bought one for my g/f as well. If you need pics of what I am talking about I can get them for you.

I thnink he's talking about the visors for when you're driving, not for when you're parked...

Boy, do they suck! Had low sun coming from my left. Put the visor down and turned it towards the window. Not only did it flop around, but it didn't cover enough fo the window to shade anything unless I drove with my head above the steering wheel. Truly flimsy and worthless. Hope we get more suggestions up on this one.

That's better driving with your head below the steering wheel.

I bought a static cling sunshade at K-Mart. Cut it in half lengthwise and stuck it at the top of the driver's side window at the rear. Covers the area missed by the visor when swung to the side nicely. It cost abot $3.00.

I tinted the brow on my car for this reason. It is nine to eight inches on the side and six to seven inches right in the middle it works so nice. For the side windows in the front I was going to get vent visors for the sun but instead I got a strip tinted on each window that is about four inches wide. I love keeps the sun out of my eyes and the side windows only cost me $15.

I got so tired of sun on the side of my head going to and from work, I created my own solution for my xB. I took off the handle above the driver door and mounted it in the same holes. It has it's own hinge and folds down like a normal visor only it extends about 3 more inches than the normal visor. Works great.

 This is not a commercial or add but, is there a market for something like this? Considering that it is designed specifically for the xB door handle mounts, what would you pay for one?
