View Full Version : So which one LOOKS better, original Box or New/08 xB? POLL

This 2008 xB looks quite similar to the "original" concept sketch
(see xB area here on SL)
However, its more rounded front looks like a Toyota sedan and the rest looks like that Acura suv or a Rover.

Anyway, I'll stick w/ the 1st gen cuz it is unique and epitomizes SCION compared to this
08 which resembles any other utility vehicle out there...
Any1 got INterior pics of the new xB? Please post if so, ty

So what's Your pick: 1st or New gen Scion xB

UmHmm.

2 days into the poll and ZERO votes for the New xB.
Hope those Scion heads are payin' attention,,,why alter an instant classic?

I got a question no one has asked yet I think. Do we now have to park with these hidious things at Scion meets? I'm sorry but those are ugly plain and simple and will not want to have anything to do with those. To have it named after the xB is just plain WRONG!!!!

Really hard to say which I like better until I can sit in and drive one.

Going by specs and looks, they are both good for different reasons. Also we do not have full specs for the 08 yet, (mainly mileage and price!) so that furthers the confusion.

Loyalty will also skew the results.

i am sure if you posted a poll of "which do you like better xB or Element?" on SL and elementownersclub, you would get 2 very different answers.

I'll have both within a year... With the new kiddo the next gen is much more practical as far as ride and space. but my 1st gen is my baby.

Talk about confusing [see "notacop" comment]
Not really sure where UR going w/ that...

I like the 1st Gen better in terms of uniqueness. The 08 looks closer to a station wagon than a "micro-van". The interior does seem nicer on the new one though.

I don't like the large C-pillar in the back though either.

Sorry, What I was trying to say is that this poll will be very flawed.

Obviously the majority here will say that they like the xB they own better. People have a natural bias to defend something that they spent thousands of dollars on. This keeps them from feeling buyers remorse.

Since no one here owns, or has even driven the 2008 xB, there will be very few loyalists.

If the poll had a "I am holding judgement until I can see for myself" that would be more accurate.

The point I made about the element forum vs this forum was meant to show the same bias.

They would not even open the doors for me at the auto show after telling them I flew out from Seattle to see the new b.

I'll be buying the new b with a bias toward the old's fuel efficiency, not it's safety features or lack of them.

So an undiscided catagory would have been my x

"We've stated in the past that we'll probably always have a box in the Scion lineup, but our owners told us they wanted a bigger box," said Mark Templin, Scion vice president. "They talk, we listen and we responded with a bigger and better xB."

They took a distinctive style and turned it mainstream. Back looks lke VW Rabbit. Rest may as weill be Vibe or Matrix. Got my box so I'm OK.

kewl, that's mainly what I'm basing this info. on=Looks.

we don't know much else besides visuals for the '08, so let me elaborate:
Which xB's Looks do you like better???

xB 1'st gen. gets my vote. I would like the new model MUCH if it were the same size as the OG. I think that is a large part of the appeal for me. The new skins look great but it's just too big. But hey, I drive an xA!

See I dont remember any xB owner saying a bigger box, just a bigger engine and I think thats why a lot of owners dont like it...I still have to see it in person...

On looks alone, the 1st gen is my favorite. On performance and features, then the new xB. It has the 2.4L I-4 from the tC, it's wider, longer and shorter, 5 speed manual or 4 speed shiftronic, preamp outputs, and more gauges, but it does remind me of the chevy HHR, and I hate chevy's.

dimension wise the 08 XB is closer to the HHR than the 1st gen. Although there are many t2b cues, the front overhang essentially ruined the overall appearance and proportion.

Car and Driver had a comparison a while ago with the current XB, PT Cruiser, HHR, and Element. The XB won because of light weight, handling, simplicity and just fun to drive. All the others had larger engines and faster, but XB won. So now the 08 XB will be just like the other cars. Heavier, faster, and same size. What's up Scion? :ponder:

That was a great article. Car and Driver said they chose the xB because it was a honest car and not trying to be something it is not.....almost a modern day Datsun 510.

Now it is just like all the others....Not bad, but not real unique either.

I'd buy a new one if those were my only choices and so I can preserve my 1st Generation xB for as long as possible.

But I think I am gonna wait and see what the xD looks like and maybe buy that or the new Nissan Cube to go with my 05' xB.

The article is from February 2006 Car and Driver. Order of finish: XB (1st), PT Cruiser, HHR, last was Element. BTW, all the others have 2.4L engines, ironic.

i love the gauges on the new B but exteriorly(word?), it looks bad. Kinda like a retarded offspring of an Element and HHR.

Is there an online link to that Car&Driver article? I searched for that issue in particular, but no luck. Thanks

old is the one! new one looks like any other car. not the unique head turning first gen. also the trend should be to smaller cars. to a point that is.

Rephrase the question: Do you have a gen 1 or want a gen 2 xB. Numbers will be very accurate.
