Sup,

Anybody know the process that Transport Canada goes through before they determine whether a vehicle can be imported into Canada? I have a 2006 xB...it was on the list. How does the 2008 xB get on the list?

evilc76, as far as RIV admissibility, all of the xb's are ok to import. here's the new list as of february 2007: click me! (http://www.riv.ca/english/US_vehicle_admissibility.pdf)

you can always call them and ask them any questions that you may have. they were very helpful when i was importing my scion. good luck!

Did anyone find out if the 08 xb is admissible to Canada? I wonder how the tCs are being sold here now, even though they are on the 'exclude' list...

The new tC do past the requirements to be inported. The The New Xb 2008 Should be ok too. But I'm not sure.

Before anyone go's gettin an 08 , just because it is not on the List, doesnt mean it will never be. The current transport canada admissibility list go's up to 07, You should ether wait for the updated 08 list to come out, or you should call RIV and ask them if they have made a judgment for the 08 XB. If you import the vehicle and then later on it is put on the list as NOT admissable, then you may be in a huge stink of a situation.

Just my 2 cent's

Happy Importing,

Any idea how the electronic odometer can get changed to kms?

I know that people liked importing the new Civic's because the odo had a toggle to change between mph and kph, I am not sure if the new odo also has this option/switch...

In my Celica I have an Apex-i RSM that is a digital odo , and lets me switch between the two as well.

these days, you're better off finding a used car dealer on the US side. Many of them these days are so happy to get Canadian cash that they'll go out of their way to find what you want. Much better option than trying to get one from the Scion dealers, who aren't selling to Canadians for the most part.

somethin doesn't look right there. Almost like they started to type something and just left it at Scion. I've already seen a 2008 XB here in Calgary, mind you there are ways to get around the Gov' but still, I'd ask for clarification on it.

I saw a 2008 xb @ brown brothers ford in Vancouver BC Canada
http://listings.boostmotorgroup.com/Search.aspx?DealershipID=149&MediaID=35&DealerGroupID=0&isLogo=0&ParentCompanyID=0
2 of them both gunship blue
I believe cars admissable until the manufacturer says otherwise so imported B4 RIV changed or the fact they say scion not XB they are sneaking in?

quite possibly. I'm not quite sure what's involved in someone with a US title coming into the country and selling the vehicle to a car lot.
Either way, I'm not really diggin the 08Xb design, inside or out.

The 2008 xB was allowed for import for a few weeks in November, but then apparently the RIV changed their minds, probably due to pressure from Toyota Canada. The few 08 xB's you'll see came through while the door was still open. Which means there are probably going to be a dozen or less owners of 08 xB's in all of Canada. Right now, no 2008 Scion xB's can be imported in Canada. Even if they could be, Scion dealerships won't sell to Canadians.

I know of an 08 xB for sale - email me with your coordinates if you want the info...

Hey guys.. I just brought my 08 Scion XB into Winnipeg last week.

Heres what I did,
- Called the dealer, found one made before Sept 1st (for imobilizer reasons)
- Called RIV asked to double check to see if the vehical was admissible.. at first it wasn't then I told them the manufacture date of March of 07, then they said it was good to go..
*make sure you get the name of the person you talked to!!*** and have them create a record for you, and take down the exact spelling of you name.
- I then bought the car but had the title and vehicle registered to a location in palm springs as they can't sell to Canadians.
- shipped car to boarder (using http://www.autotransportdirect.com/ only $925! (from Arizona - to Winnipeg)
- Called American Boarder, and faxed over title, Bill of sale, Recall letter
- Picked up car at boarder, drove to boarder.
- They first told me car was inadmissible "says right here in this here PDF.. no scion allowed", told him to call, and ask to speak to supervisor if need be, but to say "so and so told me it was ok.. i made 20 thousand dollar decision based on what she said, etc"
- Was then allowed, paid my 3000 or so in taxes (PST, and 6.1 Japan tax).
- Drove away gleaming.

I think the operative phrase here is "manufacture date of March of 07". I doubt the RIV is too particular about enforcing the manufacturers rule, even though that's who they work for, not us, so they probably didn't think twice about letting you slide on the date.
But I do congradulate you on working the system to your advantage!

if you're thinkin of dealing with the Border service, don't bother, they only know what the RIV tells them. The two steps listed earlier were the key to him getting that 08 in:

-Called RIV asked to double check to see if the vehical was admissible.. at first it wasn't then I told them the manufacture date of March of 07, then they said it was good to go..

made the call today...
the riv guy said he cant make a record but he took down my name...?
but he did say that should be allowed...
and also he mention that its best if i get a letter from the manufacturer saying its comply with canadian regulation...

good stuff, hope it works out. When you gonna try to bring it across?

silverx
02-06-2008, 08:19 AM
hopefully on the 18th but then i think its a US holiday?
the car is just collecting dust in my uncle house...

i tried calling scion for a letter of admissible to canada and they refuse... saying they dont want any scion across border... so they wont help me at all lol

TheSaint77
02-07-2008, 07:07 PM
y'know, I don't think that letter is necessary. I didn't need one when I brought my 06 across, all they wanted at the border was the "no recall" Letter. I wouldn't even sweat that.
Though Scion is acting on pressure from Toyota about the border crossing is kind of a dick thing to do.

ya i got the recall letter already but just hope the car can go in smoothly this time

good news
got my car over now

i made a call to riv..
since the xb is a mpv
any models made before sept 2007 is all admissible...

i had no problems going in the boarder this time, i dont think they even check if its admissible or not... the lady just kept writing and stamping and took like 5 min

doing my federal inspection this week

TheSaint77
02-21-2008, 02:41 PM
5 mins? Fack, my 06 took 30mins to get processed!

The Federal inspection should take about 3 mins. All they do is check the DRL's and the gauges.

richmond2000

I noticed that the door tag for the xb says MPV right after the VIN #
Does anyboby know if the XD says MPV also?
If so it might also be inportable?

silverx
02-22-2008, 04:58 AM
i was out the door in less then 20 min

i had to get my drl installed today... doing the federal and provincial inspection tm... i was told i need the provincial too? b

i dont think XD is a MPV... its more like a compact car?
but u can always call to confirm to riv..

TheSaint77

it varies from province to province. I had to get an "Out Of Province" inspection done, which was 100$ and you're somewhat at their mercy because they can claim to find anything wrong and charge you for parts, labour to get it passed inspection. I took mine to Toyota and they said the sway bar was damaged, even though the XB handled great. So another 100$ tacked on and I got it passed and registered. However mine does have a salvage title, so it could have been legit, but I'm still suspicious.

xb_Kusshi
02-23-2008, 09:36 AM
That sucks! that you have a salvage title. Did you ever look at carfax.com on your vin number to see your box had any previous accidents?

TheSaint77
02-23-2008, 09:23 PM
oh I know it's been in an accident, it was mentioned when I bought it on ebay. Plus the title was a dead giveaway.
it took some front end damage but it looks like it was mostly body damage. The frame is straight and it doesn't pull to either side when driving or braking and Scion parts were used to fix it up, so I got a decent deal out of it. The only thing I had to fix was the sway bar as per the inspection, which may or may not have been worth fixing, but like I said, i was at Toyota's mercy for the inspection.
