after reading the posts here..i've made an appt to go bck to Longo Toyota for service...i've nearly drivin my xA to 1200 miles...n i've used up more htan 5 tanks...gettin 22mpg which is really crap..
plus..the cold engine warning signal comes on every time i turn it on..at least 3 mins..then if i drive when the signals are on, my "rpm meter" moves up and down but my engine doesn't accelerate....
i hope they get the job fixed. :x
snuppy 08-20-2004, 08:53 PM gas milage depends on lots of factors... but if you're doing normal driving 22 mpg is pretty bad...
as far as the blue temp light check this thread:

rensky 08-21-2004, 09:48 AM thanks for the help..
but the problem with mine is..if i run the car before the blue light goes off, the "rpm meter" moves up and down when i accelerate, but the car won't go...
i took it back for service today...they'll give me an answer tomorrow..
till then...fingers crossed~~
empleh 08-21-2004, 06:24 PM pretty sure that's normal. you gotta let the car warm up. if the blue lights on, i think the ecu isn't gonna let you run the car hard. i think...
rensky 08-22-2004, 12:58 AM back from dealer today...they said there's nothing wrong with not being able to accelerate when the blue light's on.
argh.
chucksu 08-22-2004, 04:45 AM Thats not right though, if you had to wait for a car to reach normal temp before you could drive it, some cars you would need to wait a hour or more. You should be able to drive with the blue light on, Just take it easy like under 2,000rpm until it shuts off.
boilerman 08-22-2004, 10:44 AM One would think that any sensor limitation on acceleration would be based on oil pressure rather than coolant temperature. In cold weather a small engine will take a long time to warm up. If excessive time is required before the sensor allows reasonable acceleration I would suspect the condition of the sensor.
rensky 08-22-2004, 11:21 PM u know..i think the best i can do is to drive it more for a couple of weeks or so..see what's gonna happen..there's nothing i can do if they say they can't find anythign wrong during inspection :? :(
ScionXaBb 08-23-2004, 01:21 PM I agree with Chucksu.....it ain't right, and it does sound like a sensor issue.
When my blue temp light is on, I'm able to accel just the same as if it was not on. I'd prefer to let it warm up but sometimes circumstances prevent that.
And I've never seen the tach move up and down without being able to accel.
hnefrdo 08-23-2004, 08:38 PM yu may want to try taking yer problem to another dealer, too.
chucksu 08-23-2004, 09:12 PM Also have another question. I might be blind but have you ever said what type of tranny you have? If you have a auto maybe its a problem with the tranny & not the engine. Just something else that might be wrong.
snuppy 08-23-2004, 09:26 PM my bad, i didn't realize that you said "...moves up and down but my engine doesn't accelerate..." if it doesn't accelarate at all, then definitely get your ride checked out again... in my box (auto), while the engine is still "cold" it revs higher and holds higher rpms until the cold light goes off...
for example (rough estimate), driving 45 mph... with cold light on, rpm runs around 2.7K... when the cold light turns off it drops immediately to around 2K rpms... it does accelerate normally, just at higher rpms until the light goes off...
either way, keep us posted with what happens...
rensky 09-01-2004, 12:04 AM this is just plain weird...after taking it to the dealer and after receving a "nothing's wrong with your car , m'am" comment i drove it off to see what'll happen if i waited till the car warms up ...
i let my car sit for 2-3 mins before i start drivin..nothign happens now...everything's fine.........
hmm. i wonder what they did at the dealer's...or...my car's improvin? :?: :?: :?:

Could have been a simple sensor not pluged in all the way or maybe the ECU needed reset so just unpluging the battery might have done the job. Its hard saying.
rensky 09-01-2004, 12:40 AM :x :x :x
just that i felt a bit weird after takin it there with that comment received..then the car actin ok afterwards
