I was installing the OBX fatboy shift knob, and the instructions says:
"if needed, raise the shift boot collar until it is flush with the bottom of the shift knob"

Well, I lift that chrome ring up... and it falls right back down. Gravity hasn't been repealed yet last time I checked. So what's going on?

Just off the top of my head, there should probably be a threaded nut UNDER that collar that keeps it in place.

Gravity sucks...

I just ordered my fat boy yesterday on ebay (25.00 w/shipping)....i figured you just screw the old one off, and screw the new one ON......it's not that easy?

Well, I don't know- if you just unscrew the old one and screw on the new one, there will be a nasty gap between the top of the boot and the bottom of the new shift knob.

How did other people take care of this problem?

There is a friction ring of some sort around the shift lever that holds the chrome ring and boot up against the shift knob. feel throught the boot till you find that and wiggle it up until it is flush against the shiftknob. I know this cause my wife pushes the chrome ring down everytime she drives my car and I have to keep pulling that thing back to where it is supposed to be. I know this is kinda vague but it is the best way I can think to explain it.

Hope this helped.
