I have been looking at TWM for a few months and was planning on purchasing it until I was informed of Doc I's new STS. I wanted to se who has which shifter, what they like about it and one draw back of the shifter (price, height, etc). Pictures would be great, esp. of doc I's since I haven't really seen it installed on a tC. Thanks for the info!

 

I went with Doc I's for the following reasons:

-- Shorter throws (about 50% vs. 35% for TWM)
-- Custom height reduction (between 0.5" to 3")
-- You can't beat price.

As for pictures, again, Doc I's SS can be made in custom height reduction, and people use different shift *****, so they'll vary greatly.

 

I understand that, I would like to see the difference from 1st and 2nd gear just to see how much shorter the throw is, that would be a good comparison to do with the TWM and stock

Doc I has a great price, but I want to see if the throw is still smooth, I don't want to have to strain to get it into gear.

 

That's something that has to be felt rather than seen. After testing a TWM Stage 2, Doc I's shift smooth and with less effort mostly due to Doc I's shift cage bushings, but also due to having a shifter **** at the proper height on the shifter. I'll try to get you some pictures of 1st and 2nd later in the week.

So have you compared the TWM Stage 2 with the Doc I's, both with the cage bushings? Do you think the TWM would be smoother than Doc's if it had cage bushings? Which would be more worth it?

I too have his Gear switcher. Best Shortshifter I've had. I've owned 3. TWM being one of them.

The length from First to second measured from the center of my shifter is approx. 2" +/- 1/32".

I highly recommend his Gear switcher AND bushings to anyone with a manual transmission. The bushings add to the crisp, short, sporty feel of shifting the tC. It's just simply amazing. The things Doc can do are unlimited. Check out his website.

Yes I love how inexpensive his products are. If I go with him, I could send back my stock shifter and get $25 back so it would only be about 90 total for the STS, base bushings and cable bushings. I still would like to see a comparison between it and the TWM and also hear from more people that have Doc I's.

 

TWM: Loose feel. Not quite short enough. Short, but not a Dr. Isotope shifter. A tad sloppy. Noisy.

Doc I shifter w/ bushings: Tight, crisp, precise. Short, I mean short. Awesome feel, makes you want to shift hard every time. What else can I say? It's my favorite mod, I love it.

yes, that would be good, we need pictures of first and second gear of both with bushings installed. It would also help if they both had the same height too but that is not a big concern.

Indeed, I would like to here more people with it.. but if it just came out and not a lot of people know about doc iso, then of course I am not going to get many reviews about it. I will be picking this up once cash allows, but still want to see the comparisons :D
