New intake=more horsepower?
I've been thinking about getting a new intake system for my Xb to get some more horsepower. But I don't quite know if it is worth the money, or how much HP I would gain. Does anyone know what the average HP gain is, and if it is even worth buying?
i have a tc and thinking about getting one too but i'ma wait for the warranty to end before i do plus what i have been hearing is that bypass valves are kinda pointless unless your filter is complete submerged.
it helps..
injen short ram
stock 78hp/79lbtq
with intake 84hp/88lbtq
thats a huge gain on a small motor like ours...and this was done on a dyno jet dyno with 1500 miles on my box...

yep and no fan blowing or anything...all the CAI's ive seen do the big loop thing and honestly i dont think it helps im still trying to find someone local to me that just has a cai to test my thinking...
Any intake you get will give you a slight noticable gain in HP. I notice it mostly on the high end. When you are going 55 MPH and need that little extra while in 5th gear, you will get a little extra.
I have the perrin SRI. Big difference. If you have an 06 xB you have an extra filter in your air filter housing. It makes it even more restrictive. I have to warn you though, modding your car is like getting a tatoo, once you get past 3 you are hooked.

Toyota wont void your cars warranty due to an aftermarket intake. Worst case scenario is if you hydro locked your engine due to the intake (most likely only on a cold air) then they could argue it was a direct result of the intake and not help, but if you had a suspension issue, or your vvti controller went bad there not going to shy you away.
Its safe.
My K+N Tsunami CAI is listed as 8.4 HP gain. I felt a pretty big difference in performance after install and even more difference when I next added a TRD axle back. The axle back is supposed to gain 2HP but I think the combination of the CAI and the exhaust gained more total than the 8.4 +2 (from my seat of the pants Dyno
, if we assume the intake added 8.4 , I think the combo added about 15+, the difference after the exhaust was about the same difference in feel as adding the intake). Remember, increased HP comes at a cost....less MPG...a little less, especially if you USE your new found power
If my guesses are about right, the cost of $550 (for both) is pretty dam cheap for a nearly 10% HP increase.

Anybody that wants to get an intake should get one. Its worth it, it helps mileage and gives maybe 2-3 WHP. With an intake your not looking into getting massive amounts of power, but you want to make the engine more efficient, and thats why you get better mileage. The horsepower increase is just default.
Now, if you a bump in power than get a header and full exhaust along with that intake. If not your juts bumping up efficiency. As for the warranty, forget it, ive taken my car to the warranty 3 or 4 times and my car is loaded with parts. From suspension to engine. I have officially lost me warranty the day i installed a camcon, but thats ok i didn't need the warranty anyways because i don't like anybody touching my car, especially if i cant see what they are doing.

Look at this before deciding your new intake purchase.

If your going to buy intakes, for out little 1nz-fe, always start with K&N
go in this order
1. K&N - Leader in filter technology, and only company that shows dyno results.
2. AEM - Father company of DC sports, been around for LONG time, good reputation
3. Injen - Of course JDM, whoop dee doo.
4. Fujita - Ive seen fujita at the d1 nationals, i wasnt too impressed. but obviously better than most intakes.
Dont even get those cheap crappy ebay ones (bomz, etc...)
its funny we have same engine, but box intake gets about 4 more hp to crank than xa intake, lame huh?
but definatly g with k&n their cold air intake is 3 bends, and doenst loop like all those other weird ones.
