Hi guys!

I'm a potential buyer and very interested in a Polar White XA, I have gone to 2 large scion /Toyota dealerships and haven't seen any white xa's lying around. They only have the greay ones on the lot which I don't like. So my question is when I go to the dealership and order the white one do you finance it on that day and sign all the paperwork or do you just leave a deposit and when the car arrives that is when you finance it and close the deal? I ask this because I have $3,500 saved up already but wanted to save another $1,500 to throw down 4G on the car and the rest for the insurance. It will take me another couple of weeks to get the 1500 so I was just wondering should I wait til' I have all the money together and what if I do that then it takes me another 5 weeks to ghet the car if I order it the way I want it?

Sorry fo the long post....I just want to be as informed as I can before I sing in the dotted lign

My recommendation: get your figures settled and arrange your financing. Find out the best finance rate you qualify for, then put a deposit down. Just because you haven't seen a white xA on the lot doesn't mean that the dealership doesn't have one -- there could be one at the port facility that hasn't been shipped yet. The financing paperwork will be signed when you pick up your car.

Make sure your numbers are right and to your liking, then do the deposit. And find out a rough time frame -- it is easier to get an xA at the moment than a tC, so your wait might be less than the time it takes to save the extra $1,500.

Enjoy your xA when you get it... congratulations!

Being informed is good!

xAs haven't been flying off the lots like the xBs or tC, so there should be a good selection of them around. I suggest that you call around to your local dealers and ask if they have the car you want in stock. It's likely that you will find what you want without having to wait. This will eliminate all the procedural questions.

I am opposed to the idea of putting down a deposit on a standard car. Once a dealer has your money, you feel committed to them, even if another dealer comes through with what you want sooner. Make the dealer come up with the goods first before you get out your checkbook.

(In response to the inevitable protests: Yes you can get your deposit back, but it involves additional hassles that a buyer should not have to deal with. If all the dealer does is put the check in a file cabinet, then what is the point of obtaining the check at all if not to put pressure on the buyer?)

If you are buying a car with options that might render it less salable, or a car in high demand, then a deposit might be indicated, but a white xA is a "plain jane" model that isn't particularly popular a the moment.

Oh George, here we go again!! lol. Actually, xA's have become quite scarce in many regions. I actually have several customers waiting at least 3 weeks to get there xA's. With the launch of the tC production of the xA was scaled back.

In reality the best thing to do is speak with your chosen dealer about availability and that should give you a better idea concerning your time frame. Chances are you will need to leave a deposit (the horror!!) to secure the vehicle in your name. If you are lucky it just might make it to the dealer unsold. If your not, you will have to start the wait all over again. Good luck with your purchase!!~Dan

I waited 3 weeks after I put down my deposit. This was just last month, and I just got a base no extras black cherry AT. The floor mats came later. :D

Here is the reason for the deposit: if you are buying from a dealership in a small market, that dealership may only get, say, 6 xAs a month. And if we get a deposit on a vehicle, I immediately e-mail our district sales rep to tell him....

Why? Because presold units get preferenced and the order filled first. And anyone who tells you to not put a deposit down is essentially telling you to wait longer than you need to.

The choice is up to you... and you are doing the right thing to get info first.

Last week I ordered a Scion xA in Polar White with auto and side air bags. The deposit was $300 and an anticipated wait of four to eight weeks. The dealer had six xAs on his lot including a white auto xA but only one xB. I did not look into the coupe.

Thank you all for the responses!

I'm going to take the first advice and get my money on point first. I found out that a local dealership is expecting a white xa automatic in a few days so psyched. But if they sell the white XA before I get the rest of the money I don't have a problem with putting down a deposit. It actually makes me feel more secure knowing that with a deposit I get what I want and the car already has a potential buyer before getting to the dealership!

Thanks! :D
