I am a happy xA owner who usually does his own vehicle maintenance. I am looking to buy a service manual to help with the more involved steps, like valve adjustment.

What is the difference between Vol 1 and Vol 2 of the Service Manuals? I would like to know basic content of both of these.

Both volumes complete the entire manual. Vol 1 has half of the contents Vol 2 has the other half.

Could I potentially buy just the first volume and have most of the information I need to perform basic to moderate vehicle maintenance? Are the volumes broken down this way, for exaple the second volume only necessary for heavy work, i.e. engine tear down and transmission rebuilds? I am trying to avoid spending the extra money if I am not likely to use any of the information.

It's broken down by parts of the car... brakes, engine, suspension, electrical, abs, etc...
