Style

Like the original xB, the 2008 xB has style and presence like no other car sold in America: unique, iconic and designed for urban life

xB’s a tall, wide two-box shape that captures what the chief engineer calls "depth in simplicity"
It’s a simple, linear design with a high shoulder that runs from the top of the hood straight back to the top of the taillights
Inside, the simple, clean linear themes carry through. The designers were influenced by the interior designs of urban cafιs
Key words from the designers? Beauty is simplicity
Owners can choose from three wheel cover designs: a split 6-spoke, 7-spoke, or a massive-looking 10-spoke
Class-above materials help give xD's interior a look and feel that's a lot more than you’d expect in a compact car

I have to admit there are some nice features listed such as cruise control, intermittent wipers, arm rest, etc.....I don't see a MPG estimate--not available yet??

Sweet!

Thermometer will be nice too.

any guesses on if TPMS will be the wheel sensor type, or the kind that uses the ABS system?

We have intermittent wipers. Question is if they have the adjustable they should have had.

I was about to say......

Color choice has always disspointed me with Scion. It's like 9 different colors that span the black and white spectrum, 5 blues, and then 1 or 2 other colors with actual color.

What did the old xb have for breaks? If the new one has Four-wheel disc brakes on xB: 10.83 in. up front, and 10.98 in. out back. What are inttermitent wipers?

The old xB had discs up front and drums out back, not sure the size.

Intermittent wipers are for when there is a light rain, and you need less than the low setting. Currently our xB has only 1 position for intermittent which pauses briefly between each wipe. Adjustable intermittent wipers allow you to adjust the delay between each wipe, to adjust to the conditions you are in.

The most imprtant "spec" is the price...

This all sounds nice, but would sound even better at $15k

If its anywhere close to $17k its not a good deal. After you add a few options, you'll be out-the-door over 20 grand!

I paid that much for my Matrix XRS, which came from the factory with a bodykit, foglights, 16" rims (not hubcaps) variable wipers, MORE horsepower (180 VVTLi), AND a moonroof!!

Even with all the power and new features, they need to keep the price in classic xB territory. If they can pull that off, I'll give the new xB props. If its priced like a 4-door tC, No Deal!

^^Totally agree with the DON.
If it costs as much (or more than) the tC, the only real selling point left to people will be the 6 million airbags in it. This car is meant to appeal to the 'maturing' xB owner, and most of that market is not going to be interested in a crossover/SUV/microvan that comes from a company that has only ever marketed itslef to Djs, video game geeks, and pretentious coffeehouse dwellers. The people they are reaching to are going to go buy a Volvo wagon.
I think the company dropped the ball, because they dont realize that a majority of people who bought the car are not the people they reached out to. Yes, they were usually in the same age range-but not the same demographic they always reached for.
They think that the average xB driver was some glasses wearing coffeehouse dwelling college student, who had some interest in urban style and hiphop music- but is now ready to settle into his life of sucking butts as a financial anylist, and get married and have kids.

Scion's idea of the new 'xB's market:

"oooH!!! It has some resemblance to my car from my younger years, but has the boring hint of crappy mature conformity- just like me!!!
Wow, it has 6 airbags, so I can feel secure driving with my future wife, dog, and 2.5 children!!! Great!!! I can be a mature, rule abiding, non-distinct, member of society now- and have a car that matches that, yet still hints at my silly younger idea of being unique, or distinct in style.
Yep, the nail that sticks its head up gets hammered down. Thank you Scion for again making a car that matches my life!!"

They already dropped the ball, and if they price this thing in the same range as a tC or higher- most of the new 'xB's you'll see will be on dealer lots- not on the road.

Other then the wheel size, the xB2 is almost exactly like my current 2006 Aerio SX. The SX has a whole 1" length on the xB but is a little shorter. The Aerio weighs in right around 2,700lbs in the 5spd version. So I could see the new xB being right around this weight...

 Freaking government computers, didnt load the picture, had to use a proxy to view it. So so strange that they have a curb weight for the auto, but not the manual. Also strange that they really dont have any other specs listed on there O.O

That is a crazy weight for a car of its size

2007 Ford Focus Hatch = ~2605 L=168.5 W=66.7 H=55.7 (2.0 Engine)
2007 Scion tC = ~2901L=174 W=69.1 H=55.7 (2.4 Engine)
2007 Suzuki Aerio = ~2661 L=171.3 W=67.7 H=60.8 (2.3 Engine)
2007 Suzuki SX4 = ~2904 L=162.8 W=69.1 H=63.2 (2.0 Engine)
2007 Hyundai Elentra = ~2723 L=177.4 W=69.9 H=58.3 (2.0 Engine)
2007 Kia Spectra 5 = ~2950 L=171.3 W=68.3 H=57.9 (2.0 Engine)
2007 Toyota Corolla = ~2530 L=178.3 W=66.9 H=58.5 (1.8 Engine)
2008 Scion xB = ~3000 L=167.3 W=69.3 H=62.6 (2.4 Engine)

Looking at size.. I guess I could see the weight, just means its going to be a lot more solid then the first xB was. No more tin can feel. The rest of the stuff below was me being bord -.-

Turning these diminsons into a volume styled thing..*
2007 Ford Focus = 626,009.515"
2007 Scion tC = 669,703.38"
2007 Suzuki Aerio = 705,098.208"
2007 Suzuki SX4 = 710,967.136"
2007 Hyundai Elentra = 722,935.158"
2007 Kia Spectra 5 = 677,417.841"
2007 Toyota Corolla = 697,803.795"
2008 Scion xB = 725,777.514"
*This volume is based on a solid rectangular shape.

Also, note that the cargo space is smaller than has been widely published. It lists 22.1 cubic feet, but most of the articles I've read have stated that cargo would be 29.1 cubic feet. The current model lists 21.2. Hope it was a misprint.

Interestingly (and somehow consistent with the lack of information) scion.com does not list the cargo with the other specs. If it is there I don't see it.

On the other hand the canned PR from Chicago posted on about a hundred sites says:
The versatile interior provides 29.1 cubic feet of cargo area behind the rear seats, an increase of nearly eight cubic feet from the previous generation xB.
Given the appearance of the cargo area in pictures released, I think the 29.1 is probably close.

By the way, speaking of specs something else for the gas mileage speculators to remember when they release the gas mileage of the 08 xB it will be using the new rules. This has been discussed somewhat, but I thought a look at the new method for an 06 xB would be good prep work.
Found a link to this site posted in another thread, but I just thought this should be a part of the specs discussion.
For a fair comparison to the gen 1 xB you can check the government site.
http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorCompareSideBySide.jsp?column=1&id=22128
Accurate or not, at least you can compare apples to apples when we finally get numbers.
There are comparison charts that shows that most 2008 window sticker EPA numbers will be 7-12% lower than under the current rules.

Think about this when it comes to EPA fuel estimates.

'08 Scion xB vs RAV 4
Scion weighs 300 lbs less
and has a 0.32 cd while the RAV 4 is 0.33, both are similar in size.

RAV 4 gets 24 city, and 30 hwy

That doesn't add up man. :?
The 2006 xB specs say
Cargo volume - 21.3 cu ft
Maximum Cargo capacity - 43 cu ft

Your numbers would mean the behind the seat space on the xB2 is about 5 cubic inches larger than the gen1 xB and the Maximum cargo volume is 26.9 cubic feet larger.

I know what the Chicago brochure says, but all the other posted specs I can find say 29.1 cu ft. I think what is in the brochure is a mistake.

Do these spaces look the same size? (I tried to find more comparable pictures scale-wise, but you can get the idea)
http://a332.g.akamai.net/f/332/936/12h/www.edmunds.com//pictures/VEHICLE/2004/Scion/100257487/2004.scion.xb.26355-E.jpg

That does make a pretty interesting comparison. Closer that I would have guessed except for overall length.
Length
xB2 167
RAV 181
Width
xB2 69.3
RAV 71.5
Height
xB2 62.6
RAV 66.3

To my earlier point, for the RAV, instead of the 24 city and 30 hwy from the old EPA test, to properly compare you need to convert the RAV test number to the 2008 test.
The RAV is 21 city and 27 hwy using the same test the 2008 xB has to use. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/calculatorCompareSideBySide.jsp?column=1&id=23768

Anyway good/ interesting comparison.
