View Full Version : New windshield installed 02/22/07 Im back 03/1/07
vFePiC 03-01-2007, 11:23 PM Just got back from the dealer. I had my new scion xb windshield installed on Feb, 22 2007 where they assured me i would not be back in 2 months. Well, they were right, cause now im back in one week with a NEW crack in my NEW windshield. They quickly admitted theres a defect and are going to attempt to fix it "correctly" This time. Lets hope and pray  they get it right, other wise i got my eyes on the new one.
This car was purchased nov 2006, The car is only like 3 months old....... already 2 windshields....... This is just ridiculous.
Crack occured parked at work. Came out after work and there it was.
Ducox 03-02-2007, 02:11 AM Im in the same boat right now you are. I went out to the parking lot and found my windshield was cracked as well. It just sucks because Ive only have the car since December.
Do you now if the new glass is any more expensive?

Dont waste any money trying to buy new glass. Just pester toyota until they fix it correctly. If they cant fix it they have to do something. You may even get a new one. I heard one story of someone getting a new car cause of the stupid windshield.
Yes the new glass is expensive though, so to answer ur question. I still think it will crack anyway due to stress, this isnt cause the glass toyota installs is weak, its just from pressure.
2 days ago when I got into the box in the morning to leave for work I looked up at the rearview and there was a big ol crack that wasn't there when i parked it the day before.
I've only had mine since Dec 27 and have less than 4000 miles on it. I'm taking it into the dealer on Monday to see what they say.

jwaj2002 03-04-2007, 07:42 PM hey I know how you feel had glass pro replace my windshield a month ago, I was back the following day to get it replaced again, and every day for the following week, they ordered a new windshield and a new molding and installed it again, guess what, its still wrong, oh and in the mean time they lost parts of my car
vFePiC 03-04-2007, 09:00 PM Update: Manager at Scion called me directly and said he had talked to his Engineering department, They say its a problem with the glass, and this time they ordered the new glass, which is a different part # from the last one they installed. Lets hope this is it. Ill keep you guys posted.
Edit: I still have a strong feeling its gonna crack again.
zereaux 03-07-2007, 05:26 AM whats the new part number???

larryxb 03-14-2007, 04:00 PM I have 06 xB Series 4 bought at the end of January. 2 weeks ago noticed crack when I went out to go to work. Been too busy to go to dealership yet but will this week. Anybody have any suggestions about how to handle the dealership when they say "glass not under waranty"?
BoxOffice 03-14-2007, 08:00 PM Got mine in Aug. 06. No cracks yet, but looks like its been sand-blasted.
Scionlover 03-14-2007, 09:15 PM I got a "Stress Crack" in mine back in December. Parked in the street when I got home from work, went outside 3 hours later to park in the garage and there was a crack about a foot long. I went to the dealership yesterday 3/13 to get my oil changed and had them look at it. They ran a pen across the crack and said "Congratulations" you are the first stress crack they've had in 6 months! They have to call me back and schedule an appointment to have it replaced. I will keep ya'll updated on what happens. Looks like to me it's a defect in the '06.5 xB's. :tap:
jwaj2002 03-14-2007, 11:49 PM look it over closely when its done you don't want yours looking like mine does when installed(though it wasn't done at the dealer)

I was in about a month ago and asked them about the crack in my windshield. The service guy told me that it was a design flaw in the car and there is nothing they can do about it!
Your story has inspired me, I called my dealer and told them my story. The guy on the phone said who ever i talked to shouldn't have said that and that I should bring my car in ASAP and have the service director look at it. Guess where I am going tomorrow!

This is one step closer to getting things resolved.
Update: They still havent contacted me so i went to the dealer and they said they are trying to figure out what to do. Apparently the manager lied to me and never even ordered anything, and no1 has contacted me on the status. So what i was told when i went there was that they are trying to figure out wether to install an aftermarket glass or the toyota glass again. Clearly i want the aftermarket, but i dont think its gonna make a difference, the car has a flaw.......  My dealerships service has been really terrible. They didnt call me at all the last time this happened either.
We need to rally up together one day, All so cal cracked windshield scion owners, and drive up to a dealership all at the same time with the same problem, maybe we will get noticed.
Also: PEOPLE WITH CRACKS, DO YOU HAVE THE SCION RIMS? Not the TRD, but the other ones that you can choose with the car.

If you want Scion to pay for cracked windshields up to 60K miles like Honda did for the Element, why not join the class action lawsuit? Just go to the thread at:

Why would we want extended coverage? We are being put through hell to get it replaced every month. What happens after 60k? We are ____ed after that.
kevinjr03 06-18-2007, 07:52 PM I have a 05 xb and mine cracked after 6 months. I got mine replaced with after market glass at a good glass place around here and have not had the slightest issue since. I have had some pretty good size rocks hit my window at 60mph+ with no damage. Maybe this is the answer. It just sucks I had to pay my insurance deductable.
I wish you all luck with your windshield replacements.
Stitch_Box 06-19-2007, 01:39 AM my windshield cracked when a car infront of me tossed a rock up and nailed my windshield. I had Diamon Fusion on the glass; which Toyota installed when I purchased my car. Took the windshield to get it replaced and wouldn't you know I get the "new guy". The dude screwed up my car, put chips in the paint, cut my inside pillars and scratched my car to heck. I am so fricken nitpicky about my car it's not even funny. So, Safelite agreed to fix my car; took it to their paint shop. They screwed it up worse. It looked like crap. To make a long story short, my car finally got fixed correctly two body shops later and a brand new paint job on my car. My entire car except my liftgate was repainted due to a replaced windshield. It has been a month now since my car was fixed and now the windshield is leaking. Let a message with the glass company today. Can't wait to hear back from them. Hope no one else has had problems like this over a windshield.
jwaj2002 06-19-2007, 02:14 AM I have I'm on my 6th warranty and when it rains my car fills with water, the glass company put urethane on my vin, a pillars (inside and out) and on the hood, and they had the balls to tell me it'll be 2 - 3 YEARS before its the urethane dries! ____ing glass pro!

There is a lemon law in CA. I am not sure of the exact details, but if they can not fix the same problem after so many attempts they have to buy the car back.

Extended coverage to 60K would be better than nothing. A settlement of a class action suit is a negotiation where neither side gets everything they might have wanted.
